I'll assume some people know how to play secret santa here, so I'm going to get straight to the question. I have to buy a gift for somebody I barely know. Shes short and asian, shes smart and that's all I know. What could I get her that's beetween 10-15 dollars? Thank you

MelLeDisko answered Thursday November 30 2006, 3:20 pm: Well something that I do all the time for secret santas and I don't know what to get the person, I result to something that'll benefit them and that they really can't hate. It's just not a hateable gift.
Just purchase them some body wash, or bubble bath, or some body lotion that smells really pretty adn that they can enjoy and whenever they need to relax, they could just soak in the tub and enjoy themselves.
Another present I've found which they really can like is a gift certfiicate. I know it's not really an ACTUAL present, but this gives the person you're giving it to a chance to get what THEY want, something THEY'LL love and it'll take away the pressures of getting something else and wondering "did they like it?!" "do they hate it?!" "are they gona use it?!"
Also, do you know what her culture is? Even if she's not deeply into her culture, you could buy her something really pretty. I'm not sure how much those little paper lamp things cost, but those things are really pretty and it'd be great for her room.

clarayow answered Thursday November 30 2006, 1:26 pm: I'm asian but I can say that asians behave very differently in different parts of the world.
Most american-asians aren't as deeply rooted in their culture and superstition. But you could play safe and avoid giving things like clocks (the chinese word for giving clocks as present means sending the person off at a funeral), wind chimes (ghosts-related) etc.
You could get her IQ stuff like the rubix cube (you get what i mean right? but of cos don't give her a rubix cube)
There's this IQ thing which has 2 metal pieces locked together and you need logic and technique to separate those two metal pieces. It'll be great to get her that as an xmas present. [ clarayow's advice column | Ask clarayow A Question ]

You can get her clothes...
get her something biege, pink, black or white. She will probably like those colors.Get her a CD or a movie that is old or that she probably has not seen.Get her a candle or soap making kit.Get her some jewelry. You can also get her something christmassy like christmas candles or a snow globe. It helps if you know exactly which country she is from because if she's Chinese you can get her a wind chime. You must never give chinese people certain gifts because of cantones phrases
Giving a book sounds like askin them to accept defeat or something like that.Giving a clock sounds like your time is up and giving an umbrella sounds like your family will be deminished. [ the_little_mermaid's advice column | Ask the_little_mermaid A Question ]
