Enough money for a UNIVERSITY?

Question Posted Tuesday November 7 2006, 11:06 pm

Hi. :]
I'm a highschool junior, so I'm 16 years old.

I recently went to a "college night" at my highschool & there were like over 100 colleges there. Me & my mom have been looking at the brochures, and she INSISTS I go to a college. Like a live-at-home gain your credit hours, and not live in a dorm. My parents literally have NO money, my dads paychecks go to all the bills and then part of my moms pay checks go to some bills and the rest goes to groceries & living.

I have one brother and two sisters, and they've all gone to a four-year college, lived in a dorm, and had a college life.

I know that they won't have enough money to send me to like University of AUSTIN & stuff, even though it'd be really nice to go there, (tutition is seriously expensive, even if you live in Texas.) I hate thinking that I'm going to have to go to a 2 year college and travel from school to my parents house ALL THE TIME. But, it just feels like since I'm the youngest, I get like the worst shit.

I hate it. :/
Plus all my siblings had cars & their licenses by their 16th birthday.. & I'm almost 17 and don't even have my license yet, and won't have a car for a REALLY long time.

I don't know what to say.

I understand what your going through. If you have yoru heart set on a 4 year college like the university of austin, then i suggest you go for it. if you dont go and do what you want with your life, you will be unhappy with whatever job you have and will always kick yourself in the butt over it

If you need to raise money you could try

A summerjob (its not much but every little bit helps, this might also help with your car problems)

Scholarships: theres lots of scholarships out there, and it never hurts to try

Financial Aid it really helps alot. Thats how my sister is paying for college

Student Loans - borrow the money now, and then in 4 years, once you get the job that youve always wanted, pay them back

I hope i helped

im almost the same age as you. im 14 and already my parents are bugging me to go to college and stuff, but they can't really afford the really good colleges right now because i want to go to the University of Michigan which is a really good college in my state. all i can say to you is that your parents have been through a lot with your brother and 2 sisters, so try to do really good in school so maybe you'll get a scholarship and get free college. try to raise some extra money too for a car. your 16 and old enough to work at places such as mcdonalds, burger king, some department stores, stuff like that. otherwise now if your worried about transportation just tag along with some friends. your education is really important and getting good grades and getting into a good college means getting a good job and good-paying money. well i wish you good luck and i hope i helped!

hi there!! be chill! every problems have their own solution!

there are hundreds of way to go to the college for free! but you must have some special skills to achive those scholarship! may be you are an athlete that already won some competition, scholarship from a foreign country, etc!

if you are able to get those scholarship, i think thatyour parents will give you a special attention! Every responsible parents will give all the best thing that they can get for their childs! may be your parents still confuse in how to earn enough money for their child (your siblings also in college, right?) but sometimes their childs doesn't know how hard they are in earning money!Just make your parents proud! show them that you just need a support & attention from them!
^_^" keep smilling!

You should study hard in school to prove to your mom and dad that you deserve a car and your license.
More importantly though do you really want to go to college?

You parents are doing the best that they can - if your grades are good, then start applying for scholarships and grants.

Community college is a great start - you do good there - then you can transfer to a 4 yr school without any problem.

It sounds to me like your parents are doing the best that they can. It isnt a birth right for them to buy you a car or send you to college. If you really want a car and college work for them yourself. There are ways to put yourself thru and ask your parent to help you instead of asking them to do it for you. I was the youngest of three myself. I put my own way through college. both my sister and brother got their way paid by my parents. right now it feels like your life sucks. but for me i feel i have a better work ethic then my bother and sister. I have more respect for myself and from my parents. And i also feel there is not much in life i cant do. that is a lot to learn. You are lucky they can help you at all. And there is no reason you cant go away to college.
