I have a friend who is really depressed and suicidal. It really freaks me out when she comes to school with scratches all over her arms. I really care deeply about her, but lately I've wanted to just give up. Well, my mom and dad said they would buy me a new laptop for christmas because my current one is almost 3 years old. I have NO idea what to ask for. They want:

with those budget it almost impossible to buy a brand new laptop but u can also consider an older version one but still new! but you can buy netbook (new terms for smaller yet the most portable laptop ever built), Don't worry heres my tips:

1. finds netbook, such as ASUS eeePC 901 powered with Intel Mobile Atom Processor, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n Wireless, 1GB DDR2, 20GB SSD, 8.9" WSVGA screen, Webcam, Windows XP home for approx US$ 500. actually many brands offer quite similar spec yet similar price but most of them using linux instead of windows to reduce the price.

2. Surf more often in sites dedicated to sell computer products such as tigerdirect.com, active shopper.com with keywords such as netbook, ULV, atom, via notebooks etc & go to the official sites of the producers to see the products line up and price range such as asus.com, lenovo.com etc

My computer is out of it's mind! I know nothing about computers, but it's a dell. About a week ago, out of NOWHERE, it decided it would stop working. It turns on normally, but then goes to a black page where it says "we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this..etc.." It either freezes on that page, or shuts itself down, then restarts, and does the same thing over and over and OVER. It's driving me insane. What have I done to it? What could be the problem??

there several problems that might happen:
1. Your PC experience a sudden shock that made the hardware inside loose (can be caused by falling from the table etc)

2. Too many dust and other 'Things' that might disturbed the detection process and the coordination of each hardware inside the PC ( mostly causing the airflow inside the PC is abnormal)

3. the condition 1 (1st) made the windows system data in the harddisk corrupt

4. Sudden electricity shutdown or thunder strike or anything that can caused the electromagnetic wave made your PC uanble to boot!

5. malware or viruses that cause the windows system data corrupt

6. installment of new software or hardware [mostly hardware] that is not correct ex; untight or loose

Mostly this kinds of damages has various way to inspect and fix, depends on the symptoms that occur, but you can try one of the following [make sure you know what you are doing due to electric shock might happen!]
1. hardware inspection:
-check the plug in the rear PC casing, from keyboard plug to vga / monitor plug then if its tight enough try to turn it on

2. software:
-turn on/press delete or F2/finds boot option and choose cdrom/ insert windows cd/ save and exit/ follow the instructon untill the repair option is appear! then the win Xp or whatever windows cd that you use will repair the Pc automatically good as new!

well no doubt that alienware is trully an alien ware, great performances yet customizable since it is a premium brands from dell computers. but every laptop has different purpose and style, just make sure you finds the most reliable one. most HP & compaq are locking up their bios systems so its not suitable for any modifications, vaio from sony and portege toshiba offers a unique design and high mobility, while Acer & Lenovo offers low price yet simple design. but if you try an entertainment notebooks (widescreen, dolby digital sound, eye candy design) look for Qosmio from toshiba, sure it will satisfy your entertainment experience!

i just got a new laptop. i had a TON of pictures on my old laptop. i can't even tell you how many folders there were. i don't want to transfer them all to this computer, but i'd like to keep them somehow, without leaving them on my old laptop for the rest of eternity. and i don't want to have to print them all out. that would be time comsuming and expensive. i've been told cd's would be good, since they have a high capacity. should i go with this idea?

Well i give you the facts, as a graphic designer i would rather store my photo collections in a hard disk (currently 1 TB or 1000GB of hdd 3.5' will cost you less than $150) but ya the quality will deteriorates because of hdd has classical problems with heat and moisture. CD will give you Approximately 640mb (although the label stated 700mb or 800mb) DVD, in fact will give you 4.44gb (equals to 7 times bigger than regular CD) that cost twice than cd, but also the data inside may damages caused by any scratch on the surface! but if you wants to keep your photo FOREVER please try the google e-mail (100% FREE) which provides you with unlimited space for e-mail & attachment files. (upload it as an attachment and save it as a draft)it only cost you the internet bandwidth.

HP DV2200 is intended for professionals, but it has the most technology and feature that enables you to do lot of things! did u know that the Disney pixar using HP and ACER laptop to build their 3D animation movies??? for detailed infos you should browse www.activeshoppers.com or tigerdirect.com i won't recommend compaq-IBM since they are locking up the bios!!! Nowadays mac uses PC platform processor & the last generation of mac's is G5 (IBM processor)definitely extinct (they doesn't want to continue the development). it is clear that MAC sells chic design (with higher price) rather than the value of the performance's worth in money, but if you want to have a laptop with chic yet boring design, expensive spare parts then mac is the one.

Wow I'm stupid. So you know how people record themselves playing guitar and stuff to put on youtube? Well, I thought you could only use a camera. I just discovered people use webcams. But how? Is it only for laptops? Or can you buy a webcam and sit it on your computer? And if you do...what program do you get?

All webcams that is intended for PC have many purpose! the software is already included in the CD-driver. no need for additional Software!, but you can also use the built in windows movie maker! to upload it to youtube, you had to convert the file to the .flv format (common file type used by youtube). finds the converter on www.majorgeeks.com mostly it is a freeware!

I've had a depression problem for years, I'm on and off my medication and when I don't take my medication I sleep late, stay up all night, I'm in a bitchy mood and I can't do anything I love to do. When I'm on my medication I'm okay but I still have my up and downs.


What are helpful tips to deal with depression?

Well here are my suggestion:

1. It is obvious that any medication that you get even making you feels the preassure, since you never had those sense of feeling that can make you feel released from any psychological burden. the right thing to do is finds your hobbies and interest. you might find it as an escape door from all the preassure.

2. Finds some escape sites for example on the roof top, under the bridge, see the night sky in the backyards or even in the edge of a cliff to relax and try to sense your environment try to imagine as if you were the winds, trees, etc that can live free and open to the nature.

3. you can even finds the peace by sleeping at the church during the preaching session, It sounds as a melodic lullaby to me (it works on me)

4. the most important think is that you must know yourself, capable of accepting the real you, throw away any denials then you can feel the burden is lifted, you can consider any preassure (families, works etc)as a challenge that you can beat not as a threats to motivates yourself along with it don't forget to make up your vision as the reason of existence of being Alive as a human. without a vision you can't see the future you, you can only see emptiness towards the future.

I'm about to buy a computer for college next year, but I'm unsure of what to get. I really want to get a mac because I'm into music and it would be so much easier to record with that. However, I've heard of a lot of people having problems with them, as well as a lot of people loving them. I feel like you have a chance of that happening with any computer though. I just have had people trying to talk me out of getting a mac so I'm getting nervous about it. Does anyone have any advice/experience?

1. New Pc have lower price than New mac with similar hardware performance (currently mac using Intel core 2 duo processor made by intel for the PC platforms) You see??? Mac already loose to PC

2. Mac is just for kids looks Very glossy - very chic & with eye candy Graphic user interference (GUI) but now, there's Windows Vista available for PC that is quite similar with Mac's Tiger OS (only the GUI of course)while the design may vary by the brands.

3. Mac's spare parts cost you alot when you have to upgrade new hardware (better to buy a new one than upgrade it!)

4. The freedom of upgrading is only possible & applicable on old PC while the old Mac goes to the rubbish bin.

5. Pc is highly supported from any software developers from around the globe! you can enjoy many legal and illegal software for PC with enormous numbers worldwide that makes the software itself is cheaper! Adobe photoshop for Pc (Windos, linux) is approx $500 t0 $600 while for mac (Tiger OS) $600 to ???

6. PC had so many models and brands even you can assembly the parts by yourself to finds the right ware for either general or specific purpose. MAC??? just have ya... same old boring design with the one owned by other and the older version.

Well, you should pick one that will be urgently needed in the long terms, here are some consideration:

1. Ipod launch new gadget each periods of the year (almost Twice a year new entertainment gadgets launched by any company)this product lifecycle
< 1year (less than 1 year)

2. Skate (And other sports 'ware' such as bicycle even ATVs)will be used regularly, this product life cycle is much more longer > 1 Year (depends on the condition itself)

3. Quad Core??? Until now (even untill next year)there IS no software application used such procesor requirements for either gaming-entertainment, office or Multimedia artworks. the software development can't match the development of hardware in Any Computer (Mac or PC). the life cycle of a PC is < 6 months, while the price itself always decline by the quarter of the year.
people tends to buy PC at the beginning of the year to see the trends & enjoy the latest technology available in the markets.
Eh.. Quadcore itself is kinda sucks, u can't finds any different from another Procesor made by the Amd or the previous Core2D (if u use it for a Personal Computer) & still, they used silly ideas to make Desktop PC to match Frameworks computer by adding useless core.

Well, here are my tips
1. make sure the ppt(power point)on the PC that you want to have a presentation with have a flash player enabled (add on software) which make you capable of playing any flv video format (you tube video is flv formatted)
2. U can always convert the format from the .flv to .mpg that is known for its compatibility with any software, then u can just copy and paste (in OFFICE 2007 or 2003 both works well)u can download the .flv converter software for free at www.majorgeeks.com! don't worry i already scan this sites, they were clean.

I have 2 laptops and im going on vacation in 1 month. I know it's pretty early but I will forget this when the time comes closer.

Anyway last vacation i took, i bought my new laptop and the trip home with 2 laptops was so tiring because they are both somewhat heavy. I may carry one.

What should i do about the other, or if i don't carry any, the two? should i take out the batteries or not? where should i keep them? I'm going for 2 month BTW and i don't want anything to happen to any of them!

Hi there! here are my suggestion:

1. Take out the batteries when u didn't use your laptop for more than a week, in order to avoid any long term damage caused by the leakage of lithium cells batteries (due to the over tolerance standards came from the manufacturer) To save your batteries lifetime
2. any data stored in your Laptop will stay the same, since Laptop has their own internal batteries that let them capable of saving any data (calendar, time etc)although the external batteries or power adaptor is unplugged! (actually laptop & any PCs have their own internal batteries)
3. Most laptop Manufacturer give discounts if you buy the original batteries cells within the same brands(if u travel alot it would be better to have spare batteries)

I have borrowed a Thumb Drive (if that's what they're called)...

And I need to save something (specifically a PowerPoint) onto it, but I don't know how. Any Step-By-Step, on how to?

And I also would like to know if you don't have Microsoft PowerPoint (2003) downloaded/on your computer, can you still work on your PowerPoint if you save it on the Thumb Drive and onto the computer that doesn't have PowerPoint?

U don't need to download anything! It already have built in (power point) ppt viewer that used for preparing presentation files burned (or in file)in to CD! follow this simple steps for office 2003:
click File/package for cd/ choose copy to folder... then folow the instructon (location...etc)! after that u can get folder namely presentation cd! then u coul cut & paste it in to your thumb drive

when you want to start your presentation choose pptview.exe, then it automatically locate the files that you already prepared before!

Ok so this might sound really stupid, like a common sense question probably. Anyway,

How do you make more memory on your computer? Not buy more memory, but like I want to run photoshop and I dont have enough (RAM) memory to run it, cause it keeps closing out and I get a pop-up saying something like "not enough (RAM) memory to run this program"

Any ideas?

If you run PSD (photoshop) under 256 mb of ram it is better for you to add new ram that will cost you $40 for 1 gb ddr1, $30 for 1gb ddr2 PC667mhz or $50 for ddr2 PC850mhz!
finds one that is the same type and brands with your existing rams!
but if you have 512mb or more, the problems is your PC already infected by some malware that use most of your ram space or even firewall or other security software! when you works with PSD make sure u are offline and shut all aplication such as antivirus, firewall etc!

I have a virus/spyware problem. I think.

I have this thing called Dcads and it gives me occasional annoying pop ups. Everyone once in a while it also randomly closes my browser window. I did virus scan with AVG but it didn't find anything...

I think I might need to do a spyware scan but I'm not sure what to download that will help me. I did an internet search for a free program but there are so many options and I just KNOW I'll pick the lamest one. Anything Norton won't help me, I've already used up the free trial.

Help? Ideas? Any first hand advice about this...thing? Its driving me insane.

ok i have a few questions:

1)what would make a hard drive go bad on a 2yr. old computer?

2)my computer won't stay on for more than a minute without restarting itself (i've unchecked the box that says "restart in case of system failure") so yeah and i asked a question about it on here earlier last month around mid october and someone said that i would probably need a new hard drive. i also tried the other suggestions to do a system restore but when the computer restarts after the system restore is complete is says that it couldn't restore it. so how much does a hard drive cost? i have a dell xp home edition, not sure of the model number.

3) my dad is very computer savy. i want him to look at it because he'll most likely know whats wrong with it but i've looked at porn on that computer and i didn't clear my internet history before this happened. so, could porn have destroyed my hard drive? i would die if he somehow found out that porn is what destroyed my computer.

My answer:
1. theres 2 type of damage! software and physics by Over heat, bad sectors, sudden chatter, lightning strike, sudden plug out, ETC

2. the hdd is OK! the problems is your PC got infected by virus, the power supply unit is damage! but since the system restore won't work it MUST be the VIRUS!

#. fix it by your self! let me tell u how:

ERASING the hdd!
1. insert windows XP installation cd (just copy the original version! to save your money!)
2. follow the step
3. format your hdd on drive c!
4. reinstalling windows (if it's necessary)

System on save mode (kill the virus!!!):

1. restart your PC and before the microsoft logo appear press F8 on the keyboard
2. in boot option choose save mode, make sure you are logged in as administrator
3. after entering the save mode use the serch apllication by pressing windows logo on the keyboard + F buttons
4. search for all files and folders
5. choose more advanced option and make a full checklist in every option
6.Type .exe in the available search criteria
7. search for local harddrives in "look in" dialogues
8. after the search is finished, find and delete some .exe extension with peculiar names such as SEXY.exe, Shit.exe, winhelp32s.exe or whatever the name is as long as it is not one of your installed programs and doesn't have any affiliation with windows services, re-start your PC!

notes:
you might need software called "unlocker"
to delete anything perfectly!
most virus came from porn sites! be SAVE!
