Closet

Question Posted Saturday October 7 2006, 1:55 pm

I DESPERATELY need a way to clean out my closet and my room, and keep it that way. Right now its SUCH a war zone. Clothes fill it, just laying in a heap on the floor. They all need to be cleaned and I need an organized way to do this.

maybe try donating clothes that you haven't worn in a few months or clothes that don't fit. don't hang on to things you'll never wear and donate them to a red cross or some where good. also try having a few dressers with different drawers having tee shirts in one sweaters in another and try scheduling a day just for clothes. washing and orginizing -kayla lynn

You need to go through all your clothes and get rid of the ones you don't need. Get some bins and put the clothes that you don't wear to often in them. I have this problem all the time. I hope that it works for you.

Hey,

The best way to clean up a big mess like that is to pack a couple of suit cases like you are going on vacation..sit then in the hall way and put every thing in a box (s) . sort it and any thing that you don't use often throw out any thing that you want to save put back in the box and store in the actic...put your good stuff back in the room...

1. Make your bed. It makes the whole room look better.
2. Pick up books, DVDs, cds, magazines, etc. Put them away somewhere.
3. Pick up all clothes and hang them in your closet- they don't need to be in order yet. It helps to listen to music while you're doing this.
4. Now you're going to organize. There are a few ways to organize your closet.
COLOR
Pretty obvious. For example:
RED- light pink, pink, dark pink, red, dark red, maroon
etc. With white, grey and black being last. I don't like this system as much.
STYLE
Starting with skimpier clothes, for instance:
Shirts- tube tops, halters, camisoles, tank tops, t-shirts, 3/4 length shirts, long-sleeved shirts.
Jackets- shrugs, cropped sweaters, cropped jackets, blouses, hoodies, sweatshirts, winter coats.
Skirts- miniskirts, medium skirts, long skirts.
Pants- These I usually do by color or how fancy they are.
Dresses and formal outfits go in the back.

I usually make a playlist on my ipod and listen to music while i'm doing this...but no TV or anything else, or it'll never get done! You need to pick a day to do it and stick to it.

well what i did was i got plastic boxes (not too big) and you can put your clothes in them, such as your socks in one, underwear in another, etc.

also, you should hang up your jeans and pants on hangers, and as well as your jackets and sweaters

Haha I just cleaned out my room/closet this year so I can probably help you out.

What I first did was make my bed ( because you might need it to set stuff on it ) and then I just started bringing in garbage bags and tossed out everything I didn't want and kept the things I did want laying in a pile on the floor.

Then, after I finished throwing everything away, I organized things around and moved the items that I decided to keep wherever else I wanted to put them and make more room for other future things and whatnot.

Then for the closet, I brought in two bins, a "keep" bin and a "get rid of " bin. I went through my closet and took out all the clothes I didn't know if I wanted anymore and I really thought about wether I'd be wearing it in a year, or it'd just be sitting there still, or if I didn't even like it anymore. And if I didn't, obviously went off into the "get rid of " bin and if I decided to keep it, but it back in the "keep" bin. After I got rid of all the clothes I didn't want, I think made one side of the closet strictly for ; jeans, leggings, skirts, dresses, you know. And I made the other side for shirts, tops, jackets, etc. And then just to be super organized so I can find things better in the morning, I color coded everything so I can easily just grab it cause sometimes there'll be a shirt in my closet and I couldn't find it after searching through it like, 3 times!

Then, if there's any movies or DVD's or what not that you want to keep, but don't want in your room, I put mine in a box and put them downstairs in my basement along with my books near the entertainment center so incase I ever want to watch anything or read ; I know where things are. Or if you have space under your bed buy a couple boxes and keep them under there to make more shelf room.

Also, I would buy some of those plastic shelves things they have and keep them under your closet for shoes or whatever else you might want to store there.

I hope I helped.

wow. it's been a while scince i've done this.
Well, me personally liek to think of ym room as "an orginized mess".
It's how i find everything.
To start. make you're bed. it helps to have somewhere to ptu things whiel cleaning. have some garbage bags nearby.
throw out anythign you don't want/need/use.
AFetr that, decied what you use most.
put it in the most easily accessable place.
repeat for thing you us a bit, onyl a little. and throw out anythign you don't use at home.
If you have clothign you don't wear, give it to a charity

have 2 walls with shelves or hangers... 1 side is pants, the 2nd wall is with shirts/sweaters
you can color code them if you want...
another way to organize is if you have an attic or another storage place... put all of your summer clothes into a box and keep them there until summer returns, then when summer returns, remove your winter clothes and keep the summer ones.

I hope i helped!
