My dad got a rat terrier puppy from a lady that was having to move away. I cannot stand dogs. They're too hyper and stinky and so unintellegent because nobody around my community has trained dogs. Every time I walk outside I get jumped on or he tries to bite my shoes or something. Or he's humping one of his toys. I'm so tired of it! My parents expect ME to play with him. Why should I? It's my dad's dog, not mine! It's not my fault Dad is never home to play with him. How on Earth am I supposed to share my yard with that stupid dog? Please help me out!
Look, it's not the dogs fault that your Dad is never home either. If the dog stinks give it a bath! Rat Terriers will chase feet and shoes as people walk because it's in their nature, they were designed to kill rats. If the dog humps objects or even jumps on people, he is trying to say "no one here is smart enough to be in charge, so I will be the pack leader." He thinks you are unintelligent (and he doesn't even know you can't spell unintelligent).
My suggestion is, educate yourself on dog behavior and training. You can learn to like him, or at least tolerate the dog. Take the dog for a long walk at least 45 minutes each day, and he won't be as hyper and will be easier to train. You will also bond with the dog this way.
Consider yourself lucky that you have a Rat Terrier, and not a Pit Bull Terrier because I doubt you could handle a dominate dog that is also physically strong.

I don't see why you're so upset about this. Think of the love that this puppy will bring. It'll sleep with you at night, keep you company when you're sad [they lick you cause they know you're not happy], and they protect you when they're older. This dog might be little for all it's life [I think..], but it'll still protect you with it's life.
I would love to have a pet that loved me, but unfortunately, my dad's like you, & dislikes animals, so he doesn't allow us to have any pets unless it's like fish or something.
I think you're overreacting just a bit about this. Dogs are fun, and a very new experience which allow you to gain more respect for stuff. Don't hit the dog, don't fight the dog, and if it does something bad, just tell it that it's bad. But don't get butthurt because your dad got your family a pet, and you dislike it. Your dad was probably thinking you'd see the dog & you'd be thrilled. Hah. You don't even deserve a doggy.
I know that probably isn't what you wanted to hear, so rate me a 1 if you'd like, but it's the truth. And the truth hurts. I'm not gonna sugarcoat my answer to make it something you'd like to hear. =] [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]

You dont want to tramatize him, dogs get that and can be scared. And tell him bad! [ No_such_thing_as_self's advice column | Ask No_such_thing_as_self A Question ]
