I'm reading "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith and I stumbled across a strange paragraph:
"It so happened that Professor Alegretto had a slight peculiarity concerning his girl pupils. He made them take off their shoes and stockings and stand in their bare feet while they sawed away. Instead of beating time or correcting their fingering, he spent the hour in a revery staring at their feet.
This made Evy jump. She knew nothing of Freud, and her scanty knowledge of sex did not include any of its deviations."
Back in the Victorian Age, were men like, sexually attracted to feet?

for everything out there, there is a fetish. feet fetishes are not just a male thing either, many women are just as into feet as men who are the same way. the thing about fetishes is they can get pretty bizzare. some people are into tying each other up and having sex, some are into sex with animals, and even some are into pee, poop, and vomit being used for sexual stimulation. a foot fetish is pretty tame in the grand scheme of things if you can think of something, anything really there is someone somewhere who is into it. some people like red hair on people, some people like body hair, some people like no hair, some people like sex on a helicopter. i mean anything and evetything is a fetish and if you can think of something there's a group of people somewhere who are into it.

Some men still are. It's just fetish some guys have, my boyfriend by example, loves feet. When we are doing anything sexual, he tends to stare at them a lot. It's just how some men are.

A fetish is something unusual that turns you on, a typically nonsexual object. Nowdays and back then some people had then, although this isn't something most people talk about. Foot fetishes are not at all uncommon.

That's one of my favorite books and when I read it I wondered that too haha. I think he did have a minor foot obsession and knew he could maybe get away with it...like back then I guess.

if you remember a long time ago it was forbidden to see a woman's ankles.
so im guessing that by seeing a womans feet was like seeing a very personal part of a woman.
