Alpha345 answered Sunday August 13 2006, 6:05 pm: I am going to give you no fashion advice whatsoever, but instead rather give you a warning.
Fashion, especially in high school, is going to fail sooner or later. To try and impress others with your looks, will only gain you false friends. It isn't worth your money or time to try and impress others with your looks, because in the end it is all in vain. The friends you gain from looking nice are the same friends that will ditch you for someone who looks nicer, ditch you the second your out of style, and cause unneeded drama for you.
And for that matter, you WANT a new wardrobe, you don't need one. Ten to one you have enough clothes already to cloth an entire cul-de-sac. There are so many better uses for your money than buying clothes anyhow. why would you waste money trying to buy a new wardrop, when ten to one you will outgrow it in a year or two. It's just not worth it.
And as lostinpraise said (I consider this persons advice to be the best given so far), let your personality and heart show through instead of your fashion and vanity. That is how you make a good impression on people and make true friends. If you want to break those necks, show your personality and heart, instead of fashion.
lilstef1992 answered Sunday August 13 2006, 12:46 pm: hey i'm also going to be freshman in high school too. here's my advice. i pick out what i like and usually its a main catagory. like last year i liked happy bunny and just other stuff. this year i ended up picking out sporty type clothes. i have had band camp for the past 2 weeks and believe it or not i got a boyfriend that wore sporty type clothes too. so i'm sayin' that if you wear what you like you don't have to impress anybody and you'll find guys and friends just by simularities.

Just some advice, you can wear all the designer, expensive things you want. But, if you don't look *right* in them or don't look *comfortable* in them to others, you will not look good. Sure, in high school, wearing the expensive things help with some things, but not with all. Most of the time it isn't what you wear, it's HOW you wear it. Just a rule of fashion.
This one girl I know from school shops at Target and she still always looks good.
What's in right now? A lot of polos for one. But I don't wear polos because I don't think they fit me right (I don't like my shoulders and it's almost as if they make my shoulders look wider eeKk!). So, just because something is *in* doesn't mean you have to wear it to look *hott*. So, if you don't have the legs to wear something really short, don't. If you don't have the tummy to wear a belly shirt, don't. If you have a big butt that you don't want to look bigger, don't wear something that will make it stand out because it's *in*. See where I'm going? Wear things that hide you imperfections and show off your strengths.
Something else, just because something is *in* doesn't mean it looks good! I hate those flats with no backs. They look like house shoes. They're most likely in because some reporter saw Paris Hilton wearing them to get her mail or something and all of a sudden, those things were all over magazines.
I get plenty of complements from guys and girls for what I wear. I've even gotten a "You look so cute!" when I was in a Chanel boutique. But it isn't just because I wear Abercrombie and Hollister. I wear those clothes but I put my own spin on them. Most girls that wear the so called *preppy* clothes wear jeans, an A&f/HCO shirt, brown belt, and brown flip flops. THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME! And that will not get people to notice you. You'll just get sucked in to what you *should* wear. Don't let that happen.
I wear my A&F shirts and jeans but I don't wear the regular old brown belt with brown flip flops. I have about 9375286 belts that are all kinds of colors. I match them to my shirts. Nothing to over the top or too out there but they look cute and give my A&F more or my personality. Then I wear shoes that match that. Sometimes flip flops, sometimes heels, sometimes tennis shoes. Depends on what looks best with my outfit.
If you're wearing a dressy shirt, do not wear tennis shoes. Even if they do match, do NOT wear them. It will throw your look off and you go back to the whole not looking *right*. Sprint for some heels or *dressy* flip flops. Those plain Old Navy flip flops go with regular tees and polos, not dressy things.
Then, jewelry. I have tons and tons of jewelry that I also match to my outfits. And they thing with jewelry, it doesn't have to be expensive.
So here's what you should do. Go to the store you like, or that you think are *in* (I'll give you a list of stores when I'm done) and get everything YOU like and think YOU will look *GOOD* in. Then go to the fitting rooms and try everything on. Don't buy anything that makes you look chunky, short, flat, wide, etc. Bringing a friend with you helps alot. But bring one that will actually tell you what looks good and what doesn't. Don't bring a *yes* friend that agrees with everything you say. Moms are actually good for this because they'll tell you the truth (or at least my mom does haha).
Here are the stores I shop at:
Abercrombie and Fitch
Hollister
Buckle
Express
American Eagle (I stay away from their tees though because sometimes they aren't cute at all)
I rarely shop at Forever21 for clothes but sometimes something will catch my eye and look alright.
Same for Fossil
Now on to jewelry. Like I said, it doesn't have to be expensive. Go to stores like Forever21 and Claire's for jewelry. They're adorable, cute, and pretty cheap so you can get alot of it!
You want to get the regular old Old Navy flip flops in different colors to match your tees and such. But make sure you have some dressy ones as well. And have at least two pairs or tennis shoes to go with athletic stuff (school shirts, hoodies, etc.).
Here are just a few tips before I go on to hair and make up. I'd like you to remember though, that these are all my opinions.
*I stay away from skinny jeans because they make my hips look bigger, and I just don't like them.
*No black with brown!
*I never go near ballerina flats. Not only do I not like them but I'm 5'3 so no need to make my self shorter
*Like I said before, make sure your styles do together.
*Stay away from knock offs! Nothing will make you look more needy to *fit in* than designer fakes. Plus it's not fair to the real ones. This is my biggest pet peeve!
*DON'T shop in Aeropostale unless you're in 7th grade or younger.
Now hair, my favorite part :D! I always have my hair different. Sometimes I have it straight, sometimes I curl it, sometimes I wear it natural and wavy, sometimes I have it up, and sometimes down. I'll put it up in a messy bun on some occasions or I'll even part it different. I get many complements on my hair as well. Experiment and see what looks best on you.
Makeup. You don't need designer make up to look good. I watched this on the Tyra Show once. They took a girl that only bought designer make up and did half her face with the designer and the other half with drugstore make up. She thought the drug store was the designer. If you send me a picture of you or tell me what you look like I'll give you colors and how you should do it.
Need anything else, let me know.
Oh yeah I forgot one thing:
With your clothes, try sticking with like, the top 4 colors that look good on you. Then you don't have to worry as much with matching. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]

Keep you're problems to yourself, that will make others think of you as more perfect and strong if you're not complaining all the time.
lostinpraise answered Sunday August 13 2006, 11:20 am: I can'd add to the fashion advice given, but just a hint: the best way to turn heads, break necks and make your ex's wish they never let you go is by letting your fantastic personality shine through in everything you do, and being a great person to be around. Good luck! [ lostinpraise's advice column | Ask lostinpraise A Question ]
xoMarisox answered Sunday August 13 2006, 11:04 am: Try Abercrombie and Fitch first. They have the nicest clothes. Hollister and American Eagle also have really cool things. Vicotoria Secret has cute sweatshirts and stuff also. Look in Seventeen and CosmoGIRL! magazine because they have really good clothes in there and stuff. As for make-up, it depends on your skin color and eye color so look in the magazines again for that. Good luck! [ xoMarisox's advice column | Ask xoMarisox A Question ]
abercrombie.LvR answered Sunday August 13 2006, 10:56 am: Lately a lot of the style has been abercrombie/abercrombie&fitch! Hollister is also a great store. American Eagle isn't bad. Lacoste is pretty expensive but it looks good on some people but not on others!
