Hey,
Im 15 years old, female, 5'3, and weigh 87 pounds All theese B.M.I things say i am dangerously underweight...even though i have a very small body frame, im also a late bloomer (I havent had my period) I go to the doctor regularly and they never said i was underweight...i dont feel like im too thin. Should i be worried? Does not having your period and being a late bloomer have an affect on ideal weight?
TEENAGExHEARTS answered Saturday July 29 2006, 11:56 am: i have a friend just like you. if you have a small frame then you are normal being 87 pounds. and if you try to gain weight it will most likely all go to your stomach and i'm sure you don't want that. and not having your period has nothing to do with your weight. if you are that concerned then talk to your mom/doctor about it. I wouldn't worry about your weight. it will back on soon enough. my sister went from being your height and redicuoulsy skinny to the point she was being teased and in the matter of a year she has grown and inch gained about 30-40 pounds and fulled out and developed and yet still looks really skinny. I think all this game right as she started having her period and she starting having her period right after she turned 13.

Those charts are not always accurate because they take an average and slump it together. This may be a little embarassing... Since you are a late bloomer, they are expecting more weight fromthe hips and chest. And not everyone has a thin body frame like you. But don't take my word for it. Next time you see a doctor, ask him. Chances are that you are pretty healthy. Hope I helped! [ Helpful's advice column | Ask Helpful A Question ]
Laf16 answered Saturday July 29 2006, 9:44 am: weight does have something to do with your period... you have your period when your body stores up enough fat... if you dont have much fat, skinny for your height, or really active, your period will come later.... im skinny for my height, and the bmi ratings said the same for me, but my dr never said anything about it... so i would go ur dr's word above your health teachers... but if it makes you feel better i didnt start mine until a couple months before my 15th birthday... it could also be genetic... find out when your mom/ grandmas did.... my guess is they were late w/ theres too... but i think you are fine... i would just be careful you will probably get it soon.. so i would keep some stuff w/ me in case you do :) [ Laf16's advice column | Ask Laf16 A Question ]
SiMPLExSECREtS answered Saturday July 29 2006, 9:26 am: the School BmI's are Guesses they arent accurate because thats true they cant see your body frame, some ppl are just naturally little or petite, if you dont feel to thin , and you arent having an eating disorder dont sweat it ,im not really sure about the weight thing with your period ? i didnt know that it effected it but anyway i dont think there is an "ideal weight" if your healthy and feel healthy dont worry about it unless its an eating disorder or somthing , wait until your doctors says somthing because thats were it really counts , school doesnt kno much about each individuals health, so ask your doctor maybe next time you see him/ her. =] [ SiMPLExSECREtS's advice column | Ask SiMPLExSECREtS A Question ]
