Does smoking really quicken your metabolism? I was watching a movie today and it was kind of like the movie Thirteen, it's pretty much the same story just the movie I watched was based a true person - it was one of those lifetime original movies, Augusta Gone or something like that. Well I would never smoke because personally, I think it's a disgusting habit. But one of the girls on the show said that smoking (ciggarettes) helps quicken your metabolism. I was just curious as to whether or not that was true. And if you say that it is true, what's your proof? If it isn't true, how do you know for sure?
I promise this will in no way impact whether or not I smoke, I think smoking is gross, but I was just kind of curious when I heard that. I guess I could probably look it up myself, but my internet connection hasn't been very good and I've been getting really frustrated waiting for pages to load so I just assume this would be quicker on my part.
Thanks in advance for the answers.

Smoking does kind of quicken your metabolism because it sort of curbs your hunger cravings. A lot of people gain weight after they quit smoking because they replace smoking with eating more than they used to and that's kind of what led to the half myth that smoking boosts your metabolism. ]
I smoke, not a big deal.
it makes you less hungry and it speeds up your metabolism.
Ciggarettes are a stimulant. ]
ye i have watched that movie, so umm.. i think it can make you skinnier because you lose appetite also. i think it could quicken your metabolism i think it varies frome person to person. because my mom smokes she is skinny and eats very little. though if she eats just one helping of dinner she is "stuffed" but my cousin is overweight but smokes **only about two cigarettes a month** and so then it varies from how much you smoke, how long you did it, and how your body works. ]
yes it does. not alot tho. but it cause risks of many other things rather than your metabolism ]
OMG I LOVE AUGUSTA GONE I CRYED im sorry thats all i wanted to say ahhah dont rate me ]
Scientific evidence suggests that while smoking might increase your metabolism, it only does so to a very very minimal amount. The weight loss and gain smokers experience has more to do with using smoking as an appetite suppressant: They light up to relieve any physical and mental discomfort (like hunger) rather then doing anything else (like eating). That is the reason smoking is related to your weight, not for it's very small effects on your metabolism. ]

Good luck ]
Smoking certainly raises your metabolism. Nicotine is a stimulant, and any stimulant will do that. But there are ways to raise metabolism that do NOT involve deliberately concentrating and inaling poisons. ]
