All of my sunscreens contain warnings to keep the product away from your eyes. Last week Sunday I spent several hours in the afternoon sun. I applied a high-SPF, broad spectrum sunblock everywhere but my eyelids (including my ears and my scalp along the part in my hair). I wear prescription sunglasses and I shaded my eyes with my hand as much as possible (no hat). Somehow the sun got around my glasses and burned my eyelids. I've been using Aquaphor to keep the area moisturized but 10 days later, my lids are still bright red and the swelling has not noticeably gone down. It's been a long time since I've gotten a sunburn (and never on my eyelids before) so I don't remember how long it usually takes to heal.
I'll try the aloe & the tea bags to see if that helps. Can anyone recommend a sunblock that is safe for use in the eye area? I never want to go through this again! [ jmg62699's advice column | Ask jmg62699 A Question ]

LM answered Saturday July 8 2006, 12:12 am: you know, it might be excema. I'm not sure if I spelled that right, but that's how it sounds. I have it on my eyelids, and I went to a dermatologist, who gave me Elcon (or something along those lines) and it cleared right up. If it's not that bad, just try moisturizing for a few days (a tiny dab of Eucerin will work wonders). If it doesn't clear up, I'd see a doctor.
As for preventing it, you really can't. If it's really excema, youre stuck with it, but you usually won't notice you have it until it flares up. It's not a big deal though, its not contagious or anything. Keeping the area moisturized helps, as does not sharing makeup (duh) and removing eye makeup every night.
TEENAGExHEARTS answered Friday July 7 2006, 11:42 pm: you probably got sunburn on your eyelid. that happened to me before and it sucked because then my eyelid like swelled up. but don't worry this is what i did and it was gone in one day. just put witch hazel on it. witch hazel is like a face and body cleansar. you can buy it at almost any drug store, food store, or department store like k-mart or walmart. it will be with the rubbing alchohals. just dab that with a cotton ball on your eyelids a couple of times a day and then at night put a lotion on them. it should be gone within a day!
xokristabelle answered Friday July 7 2006, 10:44 pm: First of all, it's not pinkeye- pinkeye makes your actual eyeballs red (i just had it). Most likely sunburn or windburn, depending on where you live- apply lotion or aloe vera daily. [ xokristabelle's advice column | Ask xokristabelle A Question ]
DefinedEyes answered Friday July 7 2006, 10:27 pm: Most likely suburn. I had that too the other day!
Put some aloe vera on it to make it stop stinging, or lotion. And to prevent it make sure to put sunscreen on your eye lids!
And your ears! haha :)
