permanent hair straightning i want to get my hair permanently straightened, but my parents both said no. because: my mom said it would damage my hair because of the chemicals. my dad said that its not really permanent and it doesnt last a long time. and i don't have to worry about it being too expensive because my uncle works at a hair salon and he can do it for me for free. is what my mom and dad said true? what are some good things and bad things about getting it permanently straightened? thankss soooo much.

Before you argue that it's free be sure to ask your uncle if that's true. He'll most likely just give you a discount unless he's really generous because, yeah, that stuff is super expensive. Pretty much anything you do to your hair (perming, straightening, coloring) damages it to a certain extent so that is something you need to consider before you go ahead and do anything. ]
hi
idk that much about hair but my uncle works at a salon and does my hair for free too. what you could do is ask you uncle if its true and if it ins't, he can convinse your parent to let him do it. i hope this plan works. if you need to ask me more questions or need more advice, ask me in my advice column.

Well, I guess I should first say that I'm african american. Anyhoo...getting your hair straightened can damage your hair because of the chemicals. The best thing to keep your hair healthy, despite the straightening, is to regularly see a stylist. In your case, that isn't a problem. It's free. Also, your dad was refering to the fact that the "new growth" is your natural texture. You'll have to get the "new growth" straightened as it grows in. If you choose to not touch up the new growth, your perm won't last long as you'll grow out of it. ]
It does damage your hair.
But you can make it healthy again by using the right shampoos, etc.
Talk to your uncle ..that you really want it.
And have him talk to your parents.
Maybe it will work. Tell him to talk about the good things about it.
The perm will last to 8 months or more. ]
hmmmm... ya what your dad says is true... my mom gets a perm. like every two months... and what your mom sayss I dont like is true but it might be Im not sure... but ya what your dad says is def. true... ]
yeah.
i agree with your parents.
it does ruin your hair
and after awhile you would like your hair straightened because all you can do with it is straighten it.
it wont curl ot be able to scruntch ]
It really doesn't damage your hair as much as people say it does. It only damages the very bottom of your hair because of split ends and such and even then, it's not bad. What I did was just get my hair trimmed after I got it chemically straightened.
It isn't permanent but mine lasted like 5 months. It depends on your hair type on how long it lasts but my hair stylist said it should stay 3-6 months.
But the thing is that if you want it straight straight, you have to blow dry it every time you take a shower or you'll still have some waves depending on how curly your hair is. Also, whenever new hair grows in, the roots come out naturally so you might have to straighten those after a few months.
If you can convince your parents to let you do it then I say you should, especially if you can get it for free!! It sure as hell beats straightening it because even though you might have to do roots, those only take a few seconds. ]
