I know nothing about cars.
I'm turning 16 soon and my parents are going to by me the car I want. I want the Pontiac G6 hardtop convertible.
They just need to know how much it is.
This is what it says on the site:
Base MSRP $21,365
Invoice Price $20,190
Which price is it? Or is the price the both of those combined?
Also:
-Is it a safe car?
-Can I get it with 4 doors?
-Is it at all possible to get it in pink?
-Can cars be painted?
-If so, about how much does it cost?
*in my eyes, not a safe car, just because of how it is shaped, and the size.
*Yes, you can get it in four doors, but that would be the sedan, not coupe.
*No, you cant get it in pink, you would have to get that done customized by a paint shop. Customized paint is pretty pricey so, I would hold off on that one.
Advisor answered Saturday July 8 2006, 5:12 am: The invoice price is most likely what you would pay, the msrp means manufacturers suggested retail price. Most cars are pretty safe these days since they mostly come standard with airbags.I would just try and buy the car you want in the color you want and if that isnt possible i would just settle for a different color they do have. painting a car is expensive if you want it done well and right. I agree with the other advice go for a used car with a full warranty for 90 days of whatever length of time you can get. brand new the car loses value as soon as you drive off the lot. Honda and toyota keep there value very well too.if you buy used make sure you take it to your parents mechanic and have him check it out 100 percent if it isnt already been checked out by the lot. Talk to someone you know that has bought cars before and ask that person to go with you and assist you with picking the car that you feel is right for you. your lucky your parents will hand you a car just like that so be responsible about this big decision. hope this helps [ Advisor's advice column | Ask Advisor A Question ]

the pontiac G6 convertible is a much better buy, cheaper, costs less to maintain, is cooler looking, gets better gas mileage, and will be new.
but the real issue here is why do parents buy their kids brand new cars? i think it's foolish to buy your kids a brand new car. insurance is going to cost an arm and a leg no matter what car it is because you're a kid and no matter how you look at it no kid is a good driver. secondly you're a high risk, a new driver, and it's just a bad idea to purchase a new car for your kids. once again i'm going to say go for a 1989-1993 mercedes benz E-class or a mid ninties volvo 960. much safer cars, much more reliable, still classy, decent gas mileage, lower insurance cost, lower overall cost, and very nice looking.
there's no reason to buy your kids such a new vehicle, it's just too big an insurance risk. something 10-15 years old will be just as good, last just as long (as most kids wreck their first car anyways) cost much much less, and will save your parents money in the long run. i say look at something older, at least then painting it pink will be cheaper as will maintenence, repair, insurance, and the initial purchase. a car is a money pit, all cars are. but you can save money buying something older, that costs less, and do the same job. saving your money will let you have more money for other things and will still allow you to own a nice car at an affordable price. Helpful answered Friday July 7 2006, 6:11 pm: I can't give you specifics about prices, but I think the base price is what they are offering it for initially. But you would have to be crazy to buy it for what they are offering it for. When you ask about it, play hard to get and wait for them to throw in a juicy deal or two before you "decide". You can get a car painted at a body shop, but it can be pretty expensive. Like more than $1,000 for a small car. Hope I helped! [ Helpful's advice column | Ask Helpful A Question ]
lulabelle answered Friday July 7 2006, 6:08 pm: The invoice that you were given was the Dealers invoice. If you purchase a car according to that invoice you will be taken. It is not the true invoice of that car. This is the invoice that dealers show the public to lead them to believe that this is what they paid for the car. That would not be the true invoice the dealers are to paying. The true invoice that the dealers pay for a car is called the Manufacturer's Invoice. If you go to a dealership you ask them to let you see the Manufacturers Invoice. They will Balk at you and tell you that there is no such thing. Try all kinds of tricks to get you to go w/the Dealers invoice, but don't fall for it. Don't pay anything more than $500 or less preferably over Manufacturers Invoice. If the dealer tells you they aren't making any money on that deal they are lying to you. They are making plenty. There are all kinds of rebates and discounts the dealer is getting from the manufacturer for selling the cars and this is considered earning money on the backend. Also, are you financing the car? If you do it through the dealership they will be making tons of money on you much more than necessary and this is also considered earning money on the backend. Leasing is even worse. It's usually a better idea to get your bank to finance you and then take a check for the full amount to them. I’ve given you a couple of websites for you to investigate. Do your homework before you buy the car. Good luck and happy buying!
