Laney55 answered Monday June 26 2006, 11:16 pm: I can tell you this- when my aunt is having an "attack" she says the overwhelming emotion she is feeling is fear. She doesn't know why she's afraid, or what she's afraid of, she just knows she's terrified. From our perspective, the way we know when my aunt or my uncle are on the verge of an attack is that they 1) stop sleeping, 2) start doing weird things, and 3) become overly-confident. They really think they can do ANYTHING, and they set out to prove it. Some examples from my aunt's most recent attack: she told my cousin she would be cured of diabetes if she held a candy-cane until it melted. she did not sleep for FOUR days. when she filled out paperwork at the hospital that admitted her, she listed "Governor Bush" as a contact. she hired a personal body guard. the list goes on and ON. Keep in mind, though, that everyone is different.

*ashlee* answered Sunday June 25 2006, 1:25 am: from personal experience..the person can be happy and smiling one minute and then the next either pissed off, or depressed and crying. its like a light switch. sometimes you cant always tell if someone is bipolar, but other times its very obvious. some people think a lot of teens are bipolar, but thats just hormones and mood swings. being bipolar is a more advanced and dangerous level of..teen. haha i hope you arent thinking your bipolar, you should talk to your parents about it. not knowing your age doesnt help, but my mom thought i was bipolar because of my mood swings and took me to the doctor. they put me on birth control (im 18) and it leveled me out a lot. but it is a sickness and whoever it is that could possibly have it, should moct likely see a doctor. also, it could just be a stage, maybe give it some time? good luck :) [ *ashlee*'s advice column | Ask *ashlee* A Question ]

There are different signs for bipolar, and some kinds act different than others. Like for a few weeks they'll be depressed and not even want to get out of bed, and the next few weeks they'll be hyper and on the go constantly. My father has bipolar and he has to take medication for it, or else he'll obsess on whatever it is his mind is on and get really aggressive. Usually the medication that the people use for bipolar makes them gain weight, but they should take it or else they'll change personalities and moods, depending on how mild that persons' is.
