Just wondering, but why does the majority of this site use horrible spelling and grammar when they ask questions? True, I understand it may be faster, but when you have a serious question such as when a friend might die, wouldn't you want others to understand what you're talking about? Also, why are there so many questions on people wanting to kill themselves, cutting themselves, and being just downers in life? Life can be so wonderful, and people make it seem so horrible when they cut themselves because their parents don't let them out past 9 or don't buy them a car, when they should feel lucky that they even have caring parents, or even food on the table. I dunno, just... why?
About the whole cutting, death, & such.. not everyone views things the same. You are probaly very optimistic. Not everyone is like that. Also, sometimes those people could have their chemicals unbalanced, & that is why they get depressed at the littlest things, or they are just very spoiled. The society today, makes it like that. So many more kids get what they want. But, their parents are never around. & thats how most parents make up for it. By buying them things.. & then when kids want like a car or something, but their parents arn't that rich.. they then act in a way, to get attention. By cutting themselves, or starving..whatever. Just so.. their parents will pay attention to them. It seems silly, but to them its the only way.
jumadel answered Thursday June 29 2006, 6:12 am: Hi, teenagers do tend to be bad spellers. They write in sland and very very quickly. I agree, alot of people should be thankful for what they've got, while they've still got it. Of course most of the teenage problems aren't really biggies but things like depression and mental illnesses is no laughing matter. That is serious and could result to life and death. But I can see were your coming from and your right, most teenagers aren't particularly greatful for all their clothes washed by mum or tea on the table or a nice clean house. Alot of teenagers think their world has ended when they lose a boyfriend when in matter of fact it's only just beggining. They sometimes also don't realise that positive out goes negative. Point well taken. Daniel. [ jumadel's advice column | Ask jumadel A Question ]

The other part, those people probably have depression which is a disease and sickness. It is just like saying it is not right for a person to not feel well when they have cancer or something. Vikki27 answered Saturday June 24 2006, 5:49 pm: I have to admit, I'm a bit of a stickler for correct use of the English language and I really hate unnecessary abbreviations and poor spelling. That being said, my Father is a teacher and my Mother has always been very careful to ensure that I use correct grammar and spelling and not everyone has that sort of upbringing. I have to admit, I hate it when I was growing up but I am grateful for it now because of the manner in which people talk or write.
It's really not just here. As someone has said, it's everywhere in the world. I work for a major UK insurance company and a LOT of our employees can't spell and don't know the difference between "whether" and "weather"; or "your" and "you're", which is appalling when you think these people are mostly in their mid to late twenties and are sending letters to customers!!!
The truth is that most people don't use speech like this all the time, it's usually on the internet but it's down to personal choice. However much it might bother you, you have to allow them freedom of speech (or typing as the case might be!) in the one place it truly exists. [ Vikki27's advice column | Ask Vikki27 A Question ]
Nallie answered Saturday June 24 2006, 5:21 pm: It's not just people on this site that use poor grammar and spelling, it's everywhere. For me, I am very dependent on spell check, and of course that's not a feature here. Yes it's important to word the question in a way most can understand, but not everyone has good written communication skills. It does not always mean they lack intelligence. It may be because English is their second language or they have not reached that level in their education. Some use "gang slang" or short hand because that is how they are used to communicating on a computer. I agree that eventually in most people's lives written communication will be important.
As far as why there are so many downer questions? It's probably because this is a place to seek advice where people shouldn't have to feel judged. People have difficulty speaking of those issues in person with others, so this is much easier. It's obvious that there is a lot of dysfunction in the world today. I have seen it first hand in the patients I have cared for, in my friends, sometimes my own family, and often in my employees. Yes, life can be wonderful but at times it's also very hard, and that is why we all need to vent or ask a question or seek out support.
I too am disappointed in kids that have everything they need, but still complain that they don't have what they want. My own Mother swears it's because they have too much. [ Nallie's advice column | Ask Nallie A Question ]

BabyShammy answered Saturday June 24 2006, 12:46 pm: I think that the grammer thing doesn't matter. As for the teens I think that things can get really depressing and if they need someone to talk to, they should come to us, and let us know what's wrong and help give them advice. If talking to someone about killing yourself helps get it off your chest, and someone's advice can change your mind, I think it's worth us helping them out, because I know that I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone killing themselves because I thought that them talking about cutting themselves, and killing themselves is being a downer. Some people just really need people to listen and need someone to talk back. Alot of kids don't feel comfortable talking to parents, that's why they find site's like these to help them make the right choices in life or the choice to save a life.
