For my summer reading I have to read "To Kill a Mockingbird." I was wondering that if you have read it, what was it about, and did you enjoy it? Thank you very much.

The story is basically about living the '20's and how the citizens of Maycomb learn to come together in the 1920's and how Scout [narrator] matures and grows up throughout the years.
Six year old Scout is more of a tomboy, instead of dresses, she likes to wear overalls and is always getting rough and dirty. She's very spunky and outgoing and loves hanging out with Jem and Dill.
Ten year old Jem protects Scout throughout the story. Although he is often quiet, he teaches Scout how to respect others and how to stay out of trouble.
Atticus is Scout and Jem's father. He is an attorney who is on a case, and is defending Tom Robinson who is accused of raping a young white girl. Since Atticus lost his wife, he is devoted to Scout and Jem by acting like both a mother and father towards Scout and Jem despite other people's reactions.
Boo Radley and is always blamed for the bad unexplainable things that happen. Boo had gotten in trouble when he was younger by hanging with the wrong crowd, and he is always inside of his house and never came out, which stirred up rumors of him being 'mental' and such.
missmissgurl answered Monday June 12 2006, 7:11 pm: Yes, I thought it was very good, some of the kids my age didn't care for it, I guess it depends your maturity and age. I read it this year when I was 13. Its about a trial between Tom Robinson and the Ewells. The Ewells claim Tom raped Mayella, but Tom did not. It's about racial differences. The book is in the perspective of Tom Robinson's lawyer's daughter Scout and how she and her brother react to the trial and deal with everything that is happening around them. I hope you enjoy it! sbloemeke answered Monday June 12 2006, 6:39 pm: I did. It was about two kids, who were young at the time, who made many assumptions without knowing the full facts. Their dad was an attorney who was the epitome of a perfect person, and warns them about this. As time goes on, they learn that not everybody is as bad as they think they are, and learn how their own judgements have caused them to become like a bigot. Meanwhile, there is a second story of a black man who is accused of raping another girl. However, it is proven impossible, yet the jury still finds him guilty. He serves as the foil for the two kids.
I didn't enjoy it initially, but it has a lot of morals in it. You would need to read it to get the entire story, though. [ sbloemeke's advice column | Ask sbloemeke A Question ]
Sherry answered Monday June 12 2006, 6:23 pm: I cant really explain it, you'll have to figure it out yourself. I read it my freshman year and loved it. Some parts may be boring, and some things you might not understand..but eventually you'll catch on. Trust me, you'll like it. It's not one of those boring school books.
