How can I, a female under the age of 16, help abused, neglected, homeless, etc. animals? Every shelter that I;ve heard of requires you to be 16 to voulunteer and I cannot adopt another pet. (I've asked, pleaded, begged). I'm thinking of raising money or donating supplies and setting up boxes at random places around my community (continue with what my girl scout troop started) Any advice or suggestions?

You can have some sort of party to raise money.. rent some animal movies (like Cats & Dogs, Homeward Bound, etc.), and ask the people you invite to bring a small contribution. Then you can take their donations, along with your own, and drop it off at a nearby shelter. That way you'll give your guests the feeling of helping out, and the workers at the shelter will take notice of your craving to help these animals (And if they do, chances are that when you're 16, they'll let you work and volunteer for them.)
Hope I helped! [ NyadesRoadGhost's advice column | Ask NyadesRoadGhost A Question ]

The Animal Rescue Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need -- providing food for some of the 27 million unwanted animals given to shelters in the US every year. Over 10 million animals are put to death every year in the US alone because they are unwanted, abandoned, or abused.
Go to this website everyday and click the purple "FUND FOOD FOR ANIMALS" button. Your click provides the value of .6 bowls of food and care to a rescued animal in a shelter or sanctuary. Also for every E~card you send to your friends, family, or whoever telling them about the site, will automatically give .8 bowls of food to a rescued animal. Also supplies are always desperatly needed and that would be a huge help. Also maybe you can raise money to help build a new facility? [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]

I started to donate the humane society of the united states, and shortly after I started getting flyers from PETA trying to get me to sign up for their bullshit cause. They lie. The talk about extreme circumstances and lie about them.
Lies are only the nicest part about peta. Just don't get involved with them
I used to volunteer at the Humane Society in my area. While you are correct, and they wouldn't allow anyone under 16 to volunteer, you might want to get a parent to go with you. If you can find a shelter that will let you volunteer if a guardian is with you, then it might not be long before you are able help without a parent.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more help, but I just wanted to answer and try to deter you from considering peta as a so called animal rights group.
PunkieFreak4690 answered Friday May 26 2006, 9:15 pm: Well there are still many organizations to volunteer in. PETA is an awesome and effective organization that lets anybody at any age (13 and up) to help animals. They ship you packets, and brochures how to start, and where to begin.
If you're under 13, don't worry! Like the other person said, you can create your own organization or club at no cost. Just get some friends to join you and advertise it around. Just because you're under 16 does not mean there's no possible way to help animals.
fish34 answered Friday May 26 2006, 8:16 pm: You can try starting a club at your school whose whole purpose is to set up activities to help raise money, supplies, etc for homeless animals. There's one at my school called "Animal Rescue Club." The more people you get involved, the more you'll be able to do. ^_^ Good luck! [ fish34's advice column | Ask fish34 A Question ]
