Female advice!

Question Posted Saturday May 13 2006, 2:14 am

Okay, I'm 16 years old and I've been getting my period for a really long time. Ever since I started getting my period, I've had a really, really heavy discharge between periods. It's really uncomfortable and I feel like it's abnormal. I literally have to wear a pad between periods because my discharge is so frequent. Is this normal, at my age, or is it something I should tell my gyno?

Thank you in advance.

Discharge is totally normal as long as it is not some strange color. Some females naturally get a lot of discharge. It wouldn't hurt to mention to your gyno, but it's probably not an issue.
good luck!

hm,
this happends to alot of girls that i know.
it really normal.

i mean: if they are really bad, like real gloopy and they are huge, then you need to tell your mom and get to a doctor and ask them what`s wrong alright?

Hun, mine was almost that heavy too. I advice highly that you tell your gyno. You should always, always, always tell your gyno if your have problems or ANY questions. That's what their for. She can give you pills to make the period less heavier. If she says she can't she's a lie because i got pills for it. hope i helped!!!

if your discharge is that heavy between periods, wear panty liners. they're thinner and more comfortable than pads and they also protect your underwear from being stained.

i also think that you should see your gyno just to make sure nothing is wrong. there most likely isnt, but he might be able to give you something to control the amount of discharge you give off.

hope i helped!

i would say its pretty normal.. its happened to me several times before.. i just wear i think called a mini pad between periods when it gets really bad. its prob not worth telling your gyno unless youve had your period for more than 3 years because the only thing they can really do is put you on birth control if your not already on it to regulate your period and make it shorter and its really not worth that unless you want it real bad

Your instincts sound like they are right, it isn't really normal to the degree in which you are experiencing. See the doctor right away and I'm sure it can be treated.

I would say that if it's that bad that you might have a problem of some sort. Go to the gyno and see if it's an infection or if it's just something that you'll have to deal with. The gyno may give you medicine or something else. But I'd definately find out if it's anything wrong. I hope i helped in some way <3

dhrutts answered Saturday May 13 2006, 11:35 am:
Hi there,

Generally, girls have their first period between the age of nine and 16.
Before the first period, girls may get a sticky white discharge for a few months. This is normal.
When periods first start they might not come regularly. Things will soon settle down, however, so theres no cause for concern.
Bleeding lasts anything from three to eight days, but the amount and flow is different for every girl. On average, only about four to six teaspoonfuls of blood are lost during each period. Periods shouldnt be treated as a curse or a taboo. Many girls turn to their mothers for help and info, but school nurses and doctors will also be happy to answer any questions.

Takecare

its not that its unusual, but for most people its not like this. i suggest deffinitally going and seeing a gyno. also, you may want to try pantiliners - they are designed to make the wetness pulled from your body, and they arent as big&bulky. if you take birthcontrol then it could be a cause of that too, but it would also be semi-fish smelling. it could be also a simple infection or bacteria overgrowth, but you need to get it treated. whatever you do, dont just leave it. get it checked out.

hope this helps!! :] ♥
