Late last year I mustered up the courage to see a gynocologist because my period is unhealthily sporadic. One of the questions they asked before the check up was "Are you sexually active?" At 15, I don't think it's appropriate to have a partner. However, I would like to know if they ask you the question because the office needs to know if your hymen is broken... or if it has to do with something else. In my case, my hymen is already broken, but I haven't had sex with a partner yet. What should I answer in the future?

They get alot of youngsters coming in who have been sexually active, so they basically have to ask everyone. The doctors know that you don't have to not be a virgin to have your hymen broken, you could of had it broken exercising or in an activity. I get asked this when I go to the Gyn, too. I just tell them the truth about it. They usually only ask you once if you have the same doctor, so I only had to tell my doctor about my experiences once, but of course if you have a problem down there, they will usually ask you again.

If you'd said yes they'd probably have gone on to ask about protection and what not. Just tell them the truth, that you're not sexually active. You'll probably get asked everytime you visit a gyno. OHilovetravis answered Friday May 5 2006, 11:33 pm: Hey Sweetie,
Well usually your hymen is broke due to like bije riding, tampon usage etc. But their isn't really any way to find out if your a virgin because your hymen is broke because now-days it is usually caused by other things. But I wouldn't think they would ask you that but on the other hand they might just to wonder why it is broken! Hope I helped!
MFS answered Friday May 5 2006, 11:32 pm: They are really more concerned about general health - being sexually active puts the patient at higher risk exposure to various infections that would otherwise be a moot point for someone not sexually active. They are asking strictly from a medical perspective. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]
