about my friend

Question Posted Tuesday April 25 2006, 9:25 pm

Hi, I'm 14 and female. Just wondered if any of you could help me out:
One of my guy friends is kind of obsessed about his body and weight. He is somewhat short, 5'3", and weighs 150lbs.. I don't think that he looks fat; yet he is convinced that he is. He wants to lose weight to impress a girl in one of our classes. I've tried to tell him that he doesn't need to worry about his weight, and he looks fine, but he is stubborn and won't stop talking about it. He says he doesn't eat anything for breakfast anymore and he has cut back on a lot of food. I'm really worried that he might start starving himself or end up becoming annorexic. I suggested that he ask his doctor what kind of fitness plan(s) he should try, and he says, "no, they'll just tell me to excersize,".

Should I back off? Should I help him? How do I help him? What should I do?

Thanks, I'll rate you with a comment or two if you post!

You should try to help him. Tell a teacher and let the teacher talk to him and maybe he will listen to the teacher. If he doesn't then you can't do anything else about it becasue you tryed.

Is he KIDDING? If he's not willing to exercise then he's not willing to loose weight. Cutting back on food alone won't do anything! And you should tell him so. Defientaly don't ignore it. If he's trying to impress a girl then tell him stuff like, "You're just going to be skinny with no muscle and she'll be grossed out!" (Which by the way, is true) If he refuses to listen to you, and starts acting unhealthfuly, then tell someone. Not eating is NOT the way to go.

You definitely need to tell him that diet without exercise isn't going to get him far. Girls aren't attracted to a flabby guy who weights less.

Boys can get anorexia. It isn't talked about as much but they can.

I don't think you should back off. Offer to walk with him or play tennis or anything that will get him a moving! Exercise doesn't have to be dull. Dancing is also good.

The best person Here to help you...and if he doesn't come across your question send a note to his inbox with a link to your question and ask him to come give you some advice is...

Maybe you could get your friend to write and ask him the best way to get in proper shape. I know he could give him the best advice.

Good luck with friend of yours. :)
