I'm not sure what my condition is, or if I even have one, but it's like this:
Everytime I go to walk around my block, or if I'm in the house alone (and I babysit!), I freak out. I look around frantically, even running from room to room! Is this normal? I don't get it as a severity (sp), but it's not exactly too light either. What can I do to prevent this sort of thing happening to me? Thanks.
I went to see a psychologist about a year ago to work out those fears. Basically, he said to me "how many times has what you're worried about actually happened? How many times has someone broken into your home while your inside, or someone elses while they are home?" I thought about it, and besides the movies, its not common at all.
He then told me that breathing in and out, and just concentrating on that, helps a lot. It actually does.
Just try to think about the security around you. Your neighbours are always going to be there, and unless you are walking around at night it's very unlikely that someone is going to try to hurt you.
If you're really worried still, get pepper spray or carry a cellphone around with you. The comfort of another person is always helpful. [ solarina's advice column | Ask solarina A Question ]
You may wish to do a search on anxiety and panic attacks. Keep in mind that only your physician can diagnose you. I think since you said you freak out when you are alone...that is one of the key symptoms. So talk to your parents and your Dr. [ Nallie's advice column | Ask Nallie A Question ]

to help this, dont watch scary movies, because thats where i get so scared, girls are being like stalked and killed in them, so yea i get scared too.
you should learn karate and stuff like that so incase anything does happen, youll be ready. normally, nothing will happen, and you are scared because its a mental thing. kind of like paranoia. but its normal dont worry. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
PunkieFreak4690 answered Sunday April 23 2006, 12:56 pm: You may have anxiety and tension. But it's normal to be wandering around the room freaking out, wondering if someone is in the house, or something bad will happen. Try seeing a Doctor about this. Anxiety can get worse, and if his problem persists you might want to get treated for it. If this is affecting your every-day life then I suggest you see a Doctor. If it's only on occasion, then try taking deep breaths when you feel like you're about to panic. Tell yourself everything is fine and nothing bad will happen. VixenDark answered Sunday April 23 2006, 12:55 pm: It sounds like some sort of phobia or anxiety issue.
Try finding something that makes you feel safer. Carrying a breathmint spray might help, as they can work as a sort of pepper spray.
Also, consider getting a pet, especially a dog. Having it around the house may reassure you, and when you go for walks, it can protect you. if you feel scared, you can pet it until you calm down. [ VixenDark's advice column | Ask VixenDark A Question ]
likeomgitselisa answered Sunday April 23 2006, 12:53 pm: Maybe your just freaked out if you watch or have seen scary movies. Whenever i babysit, stay home alone, or talk walks i always bring a friend(s) becasue it takes my mind off everything. So try that and if it helps thats good but if it doesnt help then you might wanna see a phsycologist. (sp)
