Gothic

Question Posted Thursday April 20 2006, 12:58 pm

I think I'm going gothic and I'm terrified of what's becoming of me. I dress like it now and I listen to the music. I LOVE the music and I HATE the rap. The only thing is I'm scared. I don't want to be one of those suicidal people that everyone is scared of but I can't go back to being a prep because then I wouldn't be myself. What do I do!?

Being goth doesn't make you suicidal! I'm a goth myself and have been so for years and years, and I tend to think of our people not as suicidal and freaky, but as people who are deeper and more self-expressive than your average person. I also think that, as a rule, goths are very theatrical, and so we maybe seem suicidal to those who isn't in the scene.

I really hope I helped you out. If theres ANYTHING else you desire to know about the goth scene, you should write me back, ma petite!

just because your going "goth" doesnt mean you do all the stuff. gothics dont really do anything harmful. emo is the one that physically hurts yourself with cutting and sucide and stuff like that. just be yourself. dont think of what others say about you.

The first thing I would recommend is drop the recognization of labels.

Be yourself; be an idividual. Don't follow those stupid clothing patterns and music tastes. Like what you want to like, not what you feel you're supposed to. Wear what you want to wear, buy what you want to buy.

Stop thinking along those lines you are now. You're a clone. A copy. Do you want to be that way? Do you want to look like everyone else, and listen and like what they do?

Individualism is something teen culture lacks in an abundance now days. Don't fall into that hole.

The first step to doing this is observation. Look around and observe how everyone is stereotyping. First, free your mind of your current thought patterns. Don't let them blind you from thinking everything about it is 'okay' because it isn't.

"I won't talk to this person because they're wearing a black shirt" is stuipd.

The second step is removing yourself from this thought pattern and speaking to everyone and wearing what you want. No longer will your clothes be 'preppy' they'll just be clothing, they'll just be you.

The third step is to stop caring. Realize all your material possessions don't matter, teach yourself that if one day they were taken away, it wouldn't matter. All the money you put into them, everything, if one day they were gone, you would be okay with that.

After that you're free. Or, do what you want, hey I could be wrong; that's for you to decide.

orphans answered Thursday April 20 2006, 3:45 pm:
Listening to a different type of music or dressing different from other people isnt going to make you be suicidal, not all goths are suicidal. Only 1 out of 27 goths are suicidal, but below I found you a page with a little research on goths! It shows SOME stereotypes of Goths sorta close to the bottom, they do not apply to all so dont be worried. An just be yourself no matter what. Okay.
Hope I helped!

Listening to a certain kind of music or dressing different from everyone else isn't going to make you suicidal.

Listen to what you want to. All teens go through bouts of depression. Its normal.

Just enjoy the music, it doesn't take you over or anything like some wackos think it does.

I have been listening to rock music for ages. I haven't had any ill affects from it. :)
