If that doesn't work or you have a laptop make sure that it is not set to mute. To do this right click on the speakerphone type thing in the bottom right hand corner (where the time is), when you hover it should say volume, and then hit open volume control and change the settings, or unset it to mute if that's the problem.

Alexandria_ answered Wednesday April 12 2006, 6:09 pm: If any of the things that the previous people have mentioned don't work, you may have to update your sound drivers.
To do this, you :
First determine what type of sound card you have. To do this:
Click START
Click RUN
In the box type DXDIAG Click OK. This will bring up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool
When the tool finishes loading, click the SOUND tab.
In the Device section, next to 'Name' is the name of your sound card. The Manufacturer is the company that manufactured your sound card. To find the latest driver, google the name of your sound card or go to the manufacturer's web site. On the manufacturer's website there should be a support section or a driver section where you can find the drivers for the device listed in DXDIAG.
Follow the instructions on the manufacturer's web site to download and install the latest drivers.
xo_tragicglamour answered Wednesday April 12 2006, 2:56 pm: It's probably on mute. To get it off mute, if you don't already know how, you have to go to the little speakerphone in the bottom right corner, click on it, and uncheck mute. If it doesn't work, then I can't think of how it could be fixed because I have a laptop. [ xo_tragicglamour's advice column | Ask xo_tragicglamour A Question ]
sizzlinmandolin answered Wednesday April 12 2006, 2:25 pm: Is it muted? If you have it on mute, you can turn it all the way up and there will be no sound. In the control panel go to "sounds speech and audio devices" and make sure that the sound isn't muted. Make sure all the other sound settings make sense too. You don't have to know a lot about computers to know that something just doesn't seem right. Other than that, your speakers could have come unplugged or died. If you are using a desktop computer and the speakers aren't a part of the monitor, there's a good chance that one of these two things is what happened. Check to make sure that the speakers are plugged in and the settings are all correct before going out and buying a new set of speakers. Good luck! Sherry answered Wednesday April 12 2006, 12:56 pm: Your wires may not be hooked up right, go under your computer and look for any wires (first try your speaker's wires) that are not plugged in and/or have someone who knows about wires (dad, uncle, etc) check it out. =) [ Sherry's advice column | Ask Sherry A Question ]
