christina answered Tuesday February 14 2006, 6:25 pm: Well, besides pills here are somethings you could do to help you.
- Counselling.
- Friends.
Those two, I can't stress enough. Talking to people always helps. No matter what.
- Meditation.
- Writing.
- Music.
Music always helps me when I'm depressed. Meditation relieves stress & tension within the body. And writing helps you to get the feelings down. Once you get the feelings out, you feel more relieved.
- Church.
This one, I can't really say worked for me, because I'm athiest, but I've seen & talked to people who've been depressed, went to church and said that being closer to god has helped them realize.
- Think positive.
- Realize that like, 95% of the world has it WAY worse than you.
Millions - NO - BILLIONS of people are suffering everyday, so once you realize how much you have it better, you'll really feel better too. Imagine if you couldn't eat because there was no food, and had to live on the streets, because you had no house. I bet most of those people don't have a very long lifespan, because they're dying of diseases, hunger, & poverty. Thinking positively also relieves the mind of negativity. Negative things just make you more depressed. If you think positive, you're more than likely able to smile about things.
And whatever you do - I can't stress this one enough, EVER - DO NOT CUT.
Cutting does not solve anything. It does not solve your problems. It doesn't relieve pain - although that's how it may feel at the time - and it does not make you happy. It only makes things worse, and you always have people questioning you where those horrid cuts are coming from. It's also really hard to hide, and EXTREMELY hard to stop. And people who cut, more than likely can't stop, and I bet most of them will tell you the same thing - It's like a friend. No matter what you cut with, or burn with, it never goes away. It's always there, and it's that friend who just never walks out on you, or turns their back away. I could tell you, I'm a cutter. I know about this. Cutting is not the answer.
I hope I helped you as best I could, and I hope you get out of depression soon. It's very unhealthy, and makes you very mentally unstable. I hope you soon find your way to happiness, & have the strength to carry on with your life. =) Good luck.

Meetmyyimshi13 answered Tuesday February 14 2006, 5:40 pm: I have a lot of experience with this. I saw a counselor for 5 months. I'm actually still seeing one, but i'm hoping to be done soon. The pills work for a while, but honestly when i took them for a lttle i still felt empty. Talk to your friends. That's how i got out of depression. Counseling doesn't help very much. It actually made it worse at times. I think you should talk to your closest friends. They should be able to help, or you can talk to me. My screen name is lostand4gottenxz and my e-mail is wannabenormal14@yahoo.com ..I hope things get better. Bye [ Meetmyyimshi13's advice column | Ask Meetmyyimshi13 A Question ]
Villafana answered Tuesday February 14 2006, 5:26 pm: Well, if your depression isn't chemically (if it is then you do need medication) but try seeing a monk. I'm serious meditating can help you overcome anything...remember this: Where true hapiness lies is not within people or objects, it is within yourself (Your mind!) Try to think positive cause whenever you feel like your world is being torn apart, being positive and remembering the good things in life (it could be sitting down reading a great book or that feeling your get when you do good for a person).ALSO YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO SUFFERS FROM THIS MIND TORTURE and rent the movie "What the bleep do we know!" Trust me on this [ Villafana's advice column | Ask Villafana A Question ]

Heartwhisper answered Tuesday February 14 2006, 4:53 pm: Well, first I'd look at my diet, what I'm putting into my body! Soda pop, junk foods, packaged/quickie foods.... perservative, additives, colorings all are really bad for you and your body will respond accordingly. So, eat healthier, get enough rest and relaxation, stay away from excesses, ie alcohol, sugar, over the counter crap.... and you'll have to feel better!
Exercise is really important also...getting your blood moving, oxygenates your blood and wakes your body up and your emotional makeup will be in better balance.... also, if your circle of friends isn't an uplifting experience most the time.... create a new/better one....sometimes negative people can bring your vibrational quality down.... yes we humans are a vibrational reality and need like vibrational surroundings to maintain ourselves.
I use to be so depressed, good thing I wasn't ever suicidal or I wouldn't be here doing this.
I had systemic candida or internal yeast so bad it almost killed me and depression was part of that...since I cleaned out my body, upgraded my diet and nutrtional intake and get enough rest and exercise, I've not had a depressing moment since. I see the world differently and let those moments that are less than good ones....kind of slide right on by me and no longer take it all into my new reality, by choice.

TheOldOne answered Tuesday February 14 2006, 3:37 pm: Clinical depression is a serious neurochemical illness. I'm not a psychiatrist, but my understanding is that depression is normally treated by a combination of medication and therapy.
Anyone who believes that they might be suffering from clinical depression would be very smart to consult with a psychiatrist as quickly as possible, and follow their advice.
