Question Posted Saturday February 11 2006, 1:56 pm
so i have been with this team for about 6 years and i work hard each summer and i'm still benched a lot throughout the whole season. I'm not very good friends with the people on the team and sometimes i think that i'm not that good. i'm torn between quitting when the season ends or sticking witht the team. it would only be one more year of it and then i'd be done. should i go through being benched a whole year again, and keep trying to improve, or should i just quit and let the stress and other drama be gone? help!

You may feel bad about yourself getting benched but if you love the sport enough then you'll keep doing it. Dont care what other people think because some of those people may not even be on a basketball team so u could say atleast i play to them. just do what u think you wont regret. hope i helped.

My junior year I played volleyball and I was benched because the seniors that year were good and my position was taken: setter. And I was like third-string. lol But anyways, I hated sitting on the bench BUT I learned alot. My senior year, we got new coaches and now I was the setter for our team. I think sitting on the bench helped out, as much as I didn't like it, but it did help me and I learned alot. Now with your situation you said you have one more year ? well if thats the case you need to ask yourself these questions:
How determined am I to improve?
If I quit, will I be happy with my decision?
See what your answers are and then make your decision... And let me know what you choose! :-)

why don't you try speaking to the coach or who ever is in charge?
tell him/her how your feeling?
stick with it, if you weren't good enough they would've thrown you out a long time ago ... or they wouldn't have let you join the team in the first place.
as for the friends issue, after training why dont you invite a few other players to get a coffee or w/e with you? im sure they would love to go.
keep trying to improve, show them that your good then you won't keep getting benched.
