Broken up and I can't eat

Question Posted Friday January 20 2006, 1:02 am

Heylo. I just got out of a 9month relationship about 3 days ago. I haven't eaten anything in 2 days and a half. I don't have any eating disorders. I'm already underweight as it is. I dont know what to do. I've tried eating but I get so nauseous. I've puked about 6 times already. I tried soup, ice cream, salads, hot meals..and it makes me so sick.
Any foods that you suggest I try? I'm starving..but the food I usually eat...taste HORRIBLE and i cant keep it in my stomach. How long can you go without eating (but you're drinking water) before you get really sick?

You are love sick.Thats what happens. Its your nerves from thinking about it so much. Go out and do things and keep your mind off of it and you'll start to feel better.

ok if it is because of the break up that your not eatin there is something there that you need to clear up, get some closure or what ever. but i do know very well what you mean with the not being able to eat.i expeirince this alot! i always find that very small portions and juices are good. but keep with juices like orange juice and shit so there is some nutrition there. things like orange julius work great too. see if you get any cravings soon and eat what you crave, you could even take vitamins so your body still gets some nutrtion. dont worry too much about it, you will start eating again. the longest i hvae gone is about 2 weeks, but chances are you will be fine soon enough! :)

Honestly, i don't know why this break-up would haunt you like this unless you didn't make a clean cut. you need to take care of that situation before you starve to death. Now a normal person would ahve about 40 days on just water but probably have about 20-25!

Hey,

If you haven't managed to keep anything down since you broke up then it's probably not anything to do with what you eat. It sounds a lot like you're just nauseous because you're out of (I would hazard a guess) your first relationship, and you're feeling really screwed up about it.
I think it's probably a good idea to talk to a close friend (Or if you don't have a close enough friend, ask us...) about breaking up with your boyfriend (Forgive me if it's a girlfriend). It would have been kind of useful to know what age and gender you are when answering this.

Eat very small amounts, as the previous person said. I'll bet eating a palm-full of cereal wouldn't make you nauseous if you ate it, and then pretended you hadn't. When you're eating, try to think about something nice. Maybe a focus-object would be useful. The only way you're going to get over being nauseous when you eat is not to think about the thing which you believe has cause you to be in the first place.

Then again, perhaps I'm wrong. If you really seriously cannot keep anything down, there could be something that went physically wrong with your body, and just by co-incidence, happened at the same time as you were breaking up.
If you can't keep food down soon, then definitely go see a doctor, and if you can't get an appointment fast enough, make them take you in at emergency. I don't think it's easy to die from not eating, but you can have some pretty nasty things happen to your health in a very short time.

Hope your stomach settles down soon,

-K

Hmmm, I concur with the previous person, you might already be ill. I cant say how long one can go without eating before being sick, though i know that one can survive for a few weeks (about 3 i think).
As the previous person suggested try to eat very small amounts and see if it helps. If you really cant then you should see a doctor. If they determine that you are at risk they will put you in that contraption that transfers nutrients directly to your blood stream (cant remember the english name right now). Do this particularly if you start to feel tired or like you might pass out.
As for suggesting foods, you already got some of the ones I would have tried... generally the blander the better, no spices or anything like that. Have you tried something like mashed potatoes? How about drinking milk, are you able to drink that or do you throw it up too?
Anyways, good luck I hope you get better and do see someone if this continues.

If you can't keep anything down, you're probably already sick even if you don't think so. (and it would be a good idea to get medical help just to be safe)

At least, you should try to eat something, but not too much at once. I suggest that you try something like toast, rice, or cereal.
