I'm in so much pain

Question Posted Sunday January 15 2006, 7:45 pm

I just had a volleyball tournament recently. Well, I got a few injures. I can't extend my left leg without my knee hurting ((Could y'all tell me what's up with that? I skinned it pretty bad)) and I think I cracked my tailbone. And my muscles are real stiff. Can y'all tell me what I can do to relive this pain?

Remember for an acute injury try the RICE method
Rest-Ice-Elevation and Compression. "Ice is Nice" I wouldn't use heat unless it is orderd by the Dr. Heat dialates the blood vessles therefore making swelling and the pain worse. Ice may feel uncomfortable at first, but in the long term it decreases swelling/throbbing and will help the pain. Never apply ice or a cold pack directly to the skin wrap it in a towel first.

If you are a teenager, don't use aspirin or products containing aspirin. In fact if the pain is severe, it's not likely that any over the counter medicine will bring you enough relief.
In my opinion it would be best to see a Dr--if only for the pain relief aspect.

You might want to consider that a knee is a rather complicated joint (lots of tendons, ligaments and cartilage) If you don't get the proper treatment now, you may have long term problems. If you enjoy being active in sports, you should consider that an "ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Meaning go now--instead of waiting therefore elevating your risk for reinjury on an unstable knee at a later date.

You should buy an Ace bandage and wrap your knee for one. Try stretching before each practice. It helps, i know i'm a volleyball player myself. If you cracked your tailbone, you wouldn't be able to walk or stand without being in excrushating pain. I sprained mine and it was pretty apinful. I would recomend gonig to a doctor to look at your knee ans tialbone. Other than that, just make sure to stretch and try ice hot patches on your tailbone area.
hope it helped

I don't think you need to see a doctor or anything. Your knee got banged up a little and may be bruised. Otherwise, being skinned, it will heal, but it's going to hurt for awhile. Try keeping a bandaid over it to keep it from hardening. That'll help with the stiffness. It can get infected easily so keep it clean. Your tailbone is probably just bruised too and you may feel a throbbing pain from it for awhile, but that's nothing to worry about and sadly, there's not much you can do. Muscle stiffness means that you played really hard. That pain will go away soon. Take a pain reliever and a hot shower. Also, wear kneepads next time. I hope you feel better soon! <3

Hot baths are the best thing to do and lay down and rest as much as possible.. Try putting a heating pad on your back take some pain medicine.. Maybe put some ice on your knee.. If this doesn`t get better within a few days then i`d see a doctor.. Hope you feel better =) ♥ Dez

For your muscles and knee;
Try hot baths; heating pads; pain killers; strech *slightly, dont try to hard* a little bit each day; try to rest for a few days.

As for your tailbone;
If you think you cracked it, you should really go see a doctor just to make sure. He'll probably take care of your knee too. If you don't go to the doctor your tailbone might get worse. ♥

Try putting a heating pad on your stiff muscles, your knee, tailbone, etc. .. Keep on moving your knee and slowly it should start to feel better. Taking warm baths should help too. Ice will just make your muscles and knee more stiff, so only use it if you are swollen anywhere. If you are still feeling pretty bad after a few weeks, go see your doctor.

lots of ice and heat. try to take long baths and go into hot tubs. also try massaging the area and streching it as far as you can without extreme pain. the faster you get it moving the faster you can recover
