Why does everyone think you HAVE to believe in something? Do you feel it's wrong to not put faith in a religion? I'm not religious in the tiniest bit. I know some people think that you never know what you're missing out on until you try it. However, I've never even cared or have been concerned with trying to find religion in my life. Why is religion so important?
kailey answered Tuesday January 24 2006, 5:29 pm: Religion certainly isn't a requirement. Some people just feel more complete if they have faith in something, something to look forward to such as Heaven as opposed to the grim scientific facts about death. I don't think it's wrong to not put faith into a religion; I'm an Atheist myself & I honestly think that religion is more of a problem than lack of religion. To each his own. I personally feel that religion is a bunch of crap, and I don't mean that to offend anybody. There are so many conflicting religions in this world & it's simply impossible for all of them to be right, so how do you decide which one is accurate and put your faith in it? It's simply not logical to me. [ kailey's advice column | Ask kailey A Question ]
himalayanlotus2003 answered Sunday January 8 2006, 2:22 am: sir, all religion are a path for a human being to reach their divinity nature. i will tell the basic few quotations from each religion, it has the essence of what it is. jesus said, love thy neighbour. -it means you have all contradictions and conflict only with your neighbour, if you love him, your contradictions, you will become whlole being, then there is no suffering, or you will move into compassionate- a quality for divinity. in islam, i read it some where, as mohammed said, don't do anything which hurts you if somebody does same to you. it is also path of non violence- if you follow this also, you will not create any himsa-suffering - to any body in the world. the other major is hindu- first it is not at all religion, it is a culture identification for those people who lived in the banks of sindu river to ganges river or who lived in this undivided country. where people lived with inner wisdom. anything that you call as religion, is reached you from books, scripters, from somebody as word. in the ancient times they created this scientific path , do's and don'ts for life - since people are illiterate and not heiginie. also all schools which taught religion only taught to that person to evolve his inner nature not like present day system of mere knowledge. it is an experiential process. but as man get educated, when his logic started work, he needs explanation for everything. also on the other hand, people used this tools very long time, slowly missed the essence and had only stories. so this person could not reply for the other and other start neglecting the whole process since it does not suit his logic. so somewhere the connection between the science and experience has lost. and logical people added their own interpretation to whatever they got, and reached many people because they are sound in logic. rather on the other hand, people who followed also not evolved themselves to higher dimensional experience. ok let us come to your topic. the word religion means turning inward. walking towards your core identity. still in this new technological world, tools like yoga are powerful media and effective since it does not require any believe or devotion or anything. there are few living guru's (master's) now also available for you to explore your innerself. as a practioner of yoga and a walked all over the country i know this from my experience. unless you doesn't turn inward, suffering will not end to you. how to turn inward, why i should turn inward is next step. but i can refer a book , which has collection of question and answer from a living master. if you wish, get one and read it yourself. if you does not satisfy just ignore it, or on the other hand , if you really search for a religion, (inward journey) definitely it can help you much better way. encounter the enlightened is the name of book , relised by isha foundation, which promotes yoga and spiritual aspect to the depth. but one thing i want to tell you, if people not turned inward, they will simply blame others or something for their suffering and created suffering for others also. it is like you must sleep, if you have to work . like that only if you can maintain your inner engineering best way, you can reach people much more effective way and a joyous society around you. for any assistence you can contact me. if you wish you can rate this answer. Jess5764 answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 9:53 pm: its not...i'm the same way. i'm an atheist and i still have just as high of morals as any christian out there and if i go to hell (if it exists) because of that thats no god i want to be worshipping anyways. people feel that they need religion because it makes them feel important and gives them hope for things they are too weak to deal with on their own.
i know exactly what i'm "missing out" on because i used to be christian and to tell you the truth i am happier being an atheist. so no its not wrong at all to put faith in religion. its a load of bullshit anyways [ Jess5764's advice column | Ask Jess5764 A Question ]
truadvice answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 7:41 pm: you don't have to be religious . the big deal about religion is that people need to belive in a higher power. they need to belive that their not alone in the world and they have someone to talk to .they need explanations for things that science can't answer . with out religion there would be chaos . religion stops people from hurting each other because in the back of their heads they know if they do something wrong they will get punished . sp4rklingr4in answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 6:33 pm: I agree in that religion isn't that important, but if you've learned enough about history you'd know about how much religion has formed the world that we live in today. Don't feel pressured to believe (or pretending to believe) in something that doesn't really appeal to you. Religion isn't that big of a deal, so don't worry about it too much. Beloved_x_Eyes answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 5:28 pm: You dont have to believe in a religion, everyone has different views on different things. My friend is ATHEIST & I think that is what you may be. It means you dont believe in a God or religion. It does NOT mean that youre a satanist who worships the devil, you just dont have any beliefs whatsoever about religion. Some atheist people believe that it was all science that created the universe and mankind. Some dont think that, though. Religion is ONLY important to one person's heart and beliefs. No one can make you believe anything and if they try, thats just stupid. [ Beloved_x_Eyes's advice column | Ask Beloved_x_Eyes A Question ]

xo_Lime_Celebration_xo answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 4:45 pm: Hun, religion is a choice. You don't have to believe in anything if you don't want! But, everyone perfers to believe in something. Mostly everyone believes in God. It's just a type of religion!
There are many things you can believe in. If you do, personalize your conversation when you pray to that belief. They can probably help you when your in bad luck! Everyone has different beliefs.
For example, I believe in God too. I pray to him every night even if my parents don't know. I tell him personal things and ask him if he can fix these things. I also believe in the Buddahs. I have a Chinese friend who believes in that too. She got me in the habit. And I love believing in things!
Hope that helps! Sorry if it's too long!
LadyGoodman answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 4:44 pm: Here is my opinion, and if it offends you then feel free to give me a 1, since religion is a pretty personal topic.
Many times, religion is important to people because they need something to believe in in order to be happy. Sometimes, religion to me seems like the adult version of Santa Clause. They need to think that someone is watching down on them and that they are important, when really they are just 1 of billions of people who ultimately don't matter. Sorry if I'm getting overly cynical on you. You don't have to agree with me; I just get the impression sometimes that religion is this whole scam and people made up God, rather than God made up people.
On the other hand, some people were raised to believe something and it is ingrained into who they are. They see it as a very personal thing and use it to better themselves as a person. Sometimes, it's a combination of these two..
No one's forcing you to believe in anything, and if they are, then ask them how they would feel if you tried to convert them to atheism and see what marvelous answer they come up with. There's no justification for that; beliefs should not be shoved on others. Just do what makes you happy and if not being religious makes you happy, then that is up to you and for no one else to decide. [ LadyGoodman's advice column | Ask LadyGoodman A Question ]
duzzie19 answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 4:44 pm: It's not that they think they have to, it's that they need to. People need something to hold onto, something real, something that is the purpose of their lives. It is not wrong to not "have" a religion, as those are only specific sets of beliefs that people realize they share in common. Alot of people have their own beliefs that don't allign with a religion completely, like me. It's not a game- don't try to have beliefs, or force yourself to believe, it is what it is. If you believe, than you believe. But even if you don't know it, everyone believes in something. [ duzzie19's advice column | Ask duzzie19 A Question ]
