I have kind of an odd question. My friend told me that if you listen to Stairway to Heaven backwards, its satanic messages. I was skeptical and my parents told me it wasnt true. I had so many nightmares that night, thinking about what it sounded like, that when I woke up this morning, I turned on my computer and tried to find any and every piece of info I could about "backmasking" or listening to songs in reverse to hear satanic messages. I was really scared, but interested. It was all I thought about the WHOLE day, and Im not even kidding. Im afraid because I cant get the song Stairway to Heaven backwards which is "Oh My sweet Satan" and things like that out of my head! what do i do?! And also, is it REAL? Please somebody give me more information about backmasking. Ive looked up every google site on it. But, I want someone to give it to me in their own words. I will give everyone a 5 who has a good answer!
there are other songs that have satanic messages in them and this website has some of them and it plays the song forward and then backwards and it tells you what to listen for, its pretty interesting...and you shouldnt be afraid, nothng wil happen to you. ive been lookin up stuff about backmasking for a while its totally harmless. and if you dont want to think about it anymore you should just listen to soothing music that makes you forget all your worries, preferablly smooth jazz. or something soft. hope i helped.! That is one of the greatest songs ever recorded and Led Zeppelin did not worship Satan. I think you've been guilty of a "Communication Breakdown" that has left you "Dazed and Confused." I personally own all of Led Zeppelins albums and have for years....before you were even born! Nothing bad has happened to me because of listening to Stairway to Heaven, which is a very good song.
Don't listen to all the back-masking crap. The technology for listening to songs backwards just wasn't readily available when the song was written and recorded. Doesn't make much sense to write something nobody could even hear at the time. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
Kizlode answered Sunday January 1 2006, 10:12 pm: The whole backmasking thing is rubbish. Since it was first claimed that bands put so called satanic messages backwards in their songs, some bands have put silly messages backwards in songs just to poke fun at the idiots that keep claiming that messages from the devil are hidden on records. It was shown up by Judas Priest when they were taken to court because one of their fans committed suicide, the family claimed that there was a backmasked message on one of Judas Priests records and this caused their son to kill himself. When the families lawyer played some of the tracks backwards (and after telling the people in the court what it was they were going to hear) some people said they could hear the message, but Rob Halford (Judas Priests singer) played some of the tracks backwards and found completely different 'hidden messages' (which were caused purely by chance) one of which was 'You ask for a peppermint and I've got one', the judge dismissed the case because it was all rubbish.
The main thing you have to ask yourself is this, if it was true and as effective as these people claim then don't you think that big corporations (like Coke and Pepsi) would be using it to sell more of their products?
Don't get freaked out by it, just forget about it.
thewonderchef answered Sunday January 1 2006, 9:45 pm: Its true, but mostly done as a joke. It also occurs on a Queen song except the message sounds like it's promoting marajuana. The stairway to heaven thing is on www.albinoblacksheep.com I can't remember where the Queen one is. [ thewonderchef's advice column | Ask thewonderchef A Question ]
tasuki answered Sunday January 1 2006, 8:59 pm: It's not true. This was propaganda made up by VERY conservative, somewhat crazy people back when rock and roll was just becoming popular. They saw the revealing outfits and the long hair and the wildness (and also the corrupt lives that a lot of musicians lead) and they were afraid of losing control over their children. But their children didn't become evil instruments of Satan, did they? No. The majority of them became well-adjusted people and had families of their own. Trust me, I've listened to that song and plenty of other songs that were said to be evil and nothing bad has EVER happened to me. Except one time when I got hit in the head and temporarily lost my memory. But Satan had nothing to do with that. That was just a really stupid babysitter. Besides that, real Satanism isn't about evil and worshipping the devil and sacrificing children in puppies. It's a legitimate religion that just teaches to be true to oneself. The scary "Satanists" that do all that horrible stuff, they're just freaky cult wackos and there's nothing we can do to get rid of them. Satan can't corrupt you unless you let him, and you do that by being afraid of something that's really quite harmless. I've been on "freak out mode" the way you are now, even though it was about something slightly different, and I lived through it. DO NOT believe every random site you go to on google. Any nutjob can make a website and get their frightening opinions out there. For now, just take a deep breath and have a glass of water and try to calm down. Afterwards, tell your friend that you don't believe that and you don't want to talk about it anymore. If she asks why just say "Well, it might not be a big deal to you but it really freaked me out."
