FunnyCide answered Thursday December 15 2005, 2:23 pm: I don't think it is. Do you want your toenails pulled off, never to grow back? Think about how painful that is. Sure, you'll have pain meds... the first day. Your cat doesn't get pain meds - it takes up to 4 weeks, I do believe, for your cat's paws to heal. During those four weeks, do you think your cat will just sit around doing nothing? No, they have to walk SOMETIME, walking on those feet that just had nails ripped out of them. My cat lost one nail in a fight with a dog and he was in extreme pain all the time for around 3 weeks. He's still sensitive about that paw, doesn't like us to mess with it, etc.
Instead of declawing your cat, try alternitive meathods - such as training your cat. Each time you see your cat scratching its claws on a piece of furniture, spray it with some water (in a spray bottle, wide range spray, not stream. Just a little water). The cat will get the idea pretty quickly - if he scratches something he's not supposed to, he gets sprayed with water.

Annerszz_101 answered Thursday December 15 2005, 1:24 pm: Well, depends. If he's an outdootr cat, or spends alot of time outdoors and you have a fence- then he might run away. No matter how spoiled he is. If he's an indoor cat and he has claws- he could get in a bad mood and tear up things you love.
So0- you might want to get him declawed. This also helps in case he might scratch you and you would have to go to the hospitial. It's happened to me before!
MummuM answered Wednesday December 14 2005, 10:53 pm: I depends on what kind of cat you have. If your cat is an indoor cat, then yes I think it's alright. You don't want him/her going around the house and clawing everything, especially stuff that cost a lot of money.
If he/she is an outdoor cat and spends most of their time outdoors, then I don't think it's right to get them declawed. They do need their claws, especially if they are always outside. They need them to find food, get up trees and to protect themself. So taking their claws out if they're an outdoor cat, would leave them pretty much useless.
All the cats that I've have had been declawed, because they were all indoor cats. I don't see nothing wrong with it, at all. You don't want your house torn up because of their claws. It's so much better when they don't have their front claws because you don't have to worry about them, especially if you leave them home alone.
But, I guess it depends on the cat you want; inside, or outside. And the type of person you're and if you think this is right or wrong. Everyone is different and everyone will think differently about this. So, it's up to you and what you want to do. ♥ [ MummuM's advice column | Ask MummuM A Question ]
Curry09 answered Wednesday December 14 2005, 10:20 pm: if the cat is an outside cat and an indoor cat like if you let it outside sometimes then you shouldn't get it declawed. But if it's an indoor cat i think its alright. My mom got my one cat declawed because we just got new couches and she tour them apart!

t0xicParadiSe answered Wednesday December 14 2005, 10:20 pm: My aunt's cat got declawed on her front paws years ago because she always use to scratch things and people.
It really depends. If your cat doesn't scratch much and you have no problems with it having claws then no you shouldn't get the cat declawed.
But if it does scratch people or things such as carpets and/or furniture then there is nothing wrong with getting your cat declawed.

missmoo answered Wednesday December 14 2005, 10:04 pm: Dear Declawed,
That all depends on the cat's owner. I have 3 cats and I could not bare to see them declawed. Declawing is against the law in some parts of the country. Reason, is because cat's use there claws for survival when they are in the wild. Without claws, cat's could not protect themselves from other animals or climb very well. It might protect your furniture to get your cat declawed but I believe that it's not worth it. If your cat ran loose, you would want to know that it could protect itself. Your choice. ♥ Miss Moo [ missmoo's advice column | Ask missmoo A Question ]
