it`s called pressure. everyone feels it, the pressur to be cool, beautiful, fun, funny, everything. it`s a part of life. magazines. the television. every where you look it`s these gorgeous people. and you can`t run away from that. [♥]Lej ]
The teen years seem to be the age where you emphasize EVERYTHING -- opinions, activities, etc -- and appearance just fits in with that. Also, the magazines and movies have all these gorgeous actresses who are in their teens or meant to look that way -- the archetype of a beautiful person in America is someone in their teens. So it's not surprising teenagers should care so much about appearance.
Pity the teen years are often when you look the worst. Acne, etc. ]
yes, they spend too much time on it. why should they worry about what other people think. if you are happy with yourself, you wouldnt spend so much time stressing on what you look like. appearance means nada. the inside and personality are what light you up. ]
So they can be more popular, or girls do it to get attention from guys. ]
Girls do it to attract the boys... ]
Hormones are kicking in and as this happens teens start to become aware of themselves sexually. They want to be pleasing to the opposite sex so they turn to the media to help them decide what "attractive" involves. Sometimes teens that haven't quite reached this point will be pressured into it by the media and people around them, which can cause problems for them. If they're not ready and the opposite sex thinks that they are because of the way that they dress and behave, things can go wrong. Other times, those that aren't ready don't give in and are alienated from others. When they reach the point where they want to be attractive, they've already decided that they aren't or that "something is wrong" with them. So, basically it's from hormones and peer pressure. I hope I helped and good luck with whatever you needed that for! ]
Everyone dresses to certain fabrications. Punk, Prep, blah blah. Teens feel if they aren't one of those fake personalities of culture, they aren't 'cool' 'hip' or 'popular'.
Many people join certain labels to become 'different' That is a common belief of the punk label and the goth label.
Although, from my point of view, all they are is being different in the same way, therefore, they can't avoid being different, because they're all the same. Ya get me?
Other teens judge mainly based off of appearnace. If you dont dress a certain way, some person may no longer want to talk or be associated with you. Why? Because they're dumb mother fucking brainwashed piece of shit bigots who need to open their eyes and get to know someone before making a judgement!
They do that because of the type of 'attitude' that is associated with their group. If you dont look a certain way, you obviously are too different and therefore, are obviously not fit to even talk to that certain person because of your certain 'style'. If someone is a christian but switches into a certain 'label' to begin looking cool, they may become Atheist just because that is a common thing for that certain label's culture.
It is the common view of others that will switch a certain entity to believe such thoughts and views on life because of their surrounding peers.
Good question. People need to ask more of this stuff. ]
Its all really about find out who they are, I used to do the whole short hair and spoked thing, not my hairs shaggy, I wear jeans mainly with holes and white teeshirts... its plane and basic my favorite piece of colthing is my sweatshirt that has holes all over and no longer keeps me warm haha. most people dont like how I look and wouldnt take the time to get6 to know me but the few who do really get along with me and we are fast friends. ]
to fit in and to be cool, to be liked. some do it because they think it will make them "popular". ]
Teens are self-conscious about their appearance. They want to feel beautiful, and are influenced by the media with supermodels and actresses, more so than adults. Adults are equal, in terms of age, with the supermodels and actresses that they don't need to feel inferior, and are mature enough to look beyond they way someone looks. Teenagers look up to celebrities, because celebrities are big and beautiful, and they're still growing and stuff. About the being mature enough to look beyond looks, teenagers want to be accepted by their peers. Basically, even if they're not conscious of it, they want to attract the opposite sex. Man must keep its population moving and reproduce. It's all a survival thing. Everybody, teen or not, wants to be beautiful, You can study this more in anthropology. ]
because thats what the media wants. in todays world tv, music, everything makes you feel horrible if you are not the pretties thinnest person out their. thats why people go to all lengths to be pretty. thats one of the reasons teen suicide is so high ]
