um... you know, i tend to be more depressed in winter months than in summer months. maybe its your body's response to the dreary weather. in other words, no theres NOTHING wrong with you :D ]
Yes! Actually, I just learned this today in my medical skills class. A majority of people in the winter tend to get depressed feeling, it's not clinical depression though, it's called Melancholy. It's caused by the lack of sun and the sad, stormy weather. My teacher said that some people get this case of Melancholy so bad, that people wear lightbulb hats on their head! Yes, it is very common . ]
Most people are not very active in the winter so they become more depressed than they would in the summer. In the summer there is so much to do but you cant do anything hardly in the winter. So it is normal for that to happen ]
During the winter, you get a lack of melanin from the sun. Snow can also create melanin, but not the same as the sun produces. ]
its funny that you ask that because i was just talking about it today. apparently its some kind of proven fact, that people become more depressed in the winter months because its normally darker and the way the cold dry weather is, or dark cold rainy weather is, is brings you down and makes you feel somewhat empty. its shown that theres more suicides in the winter and in places that are always cold. its called S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder) its happens to a lot of people. something like three fourths of the people who get it are women. to get rid of it you can get this thing called "light therapy" or "phototherapy" with some kind of flourescent light. you should look it up, itd be a lot more helpful. you could also take anit-depressants, but that should always be a last resort if ever an option in anything. ]
yes acutally it is..the weather can really effect your emotions and personality. sometimes ppl find a sun lamp helpful to make their emotions better..it givs you vitamin D and sometimes sun can help you feel happier and affect how you feel. ]
i would say that yes it is because in winter everything is boring outside and you can't do anything outside. you end up inside with loads of energy and the weather's crumy and it's perfectly normal, it happens to everyone ]
Around September and October the last few years I got a little down. If nothing was going on I'd be a little more down than usual, and if something bad happened it just hit me ten times more hard than it should. I don't know why this happens, I can't remember anything major happening in these months. As long as it doesn't affect your life too much I don't think it's anything too bad. ]
Yeah, but being down doesn't mean you're deperessed. It's natural that people slow down and feel tired and down more when the weather is like it is in winter, cloudy, grey out etc.
Of course, if you think there might be something more than that wrong, you could have SAD (seasonal affective disorder) which just means that when the days are darker you feel more down and sad and sunny days tend to bring your mood up. I'm not a doctor or anything, but you can look up more info about SAD online or talk to parents or your doctor next time you go in if you think that you might have SAD.
Just so you don't get worried, SAD doesn't generally have the same effects as depression (self-injury, suicidal thoughts, pushing friends away etc) it just means that your mood kind of swings with the weather. ]
Yup! I think it's called Winter Depression! It's quite common, especially in places where it's COLD. ]
No. People who get depressed in winter having a thing calle S.A.D. It is from lack of sunlight in their life. They generally need to sit in light for a long time each day. That person should see a psychologist immediately. ]
