sis's weight

Question Posted Friday October 14 2005, 6:04 pm

My sister is 11 and in 6th grade. She weighs like 89 pounds. She is about 4 11. She cares about her weight a lot. She thinks shes fat but I've seen her friends and they say she nots and her stomach isnt that big at all. She is also muscular. Like she is a fast runner and she is strong. So do you think she is heavy for her age?? And do you know any ways that she could lose weighgt??

Her BMI is 18. A BMI is your body mass index. It lets you know if you weigh too much/little for you height. You shouldn't rely on it 100% though because as other people said, muscle weighs more than fat, and there are body builders that weigh 200 lbs and also obese people that weigh 200 lbs who are the same height. So anyway, I went to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) and calculated her BMI. Below 18.5 is underweight. So, your sister really has nothing to worry about. I'd reccomend showing her that website, then maybe she'll believe you and her friends.

shes too young to be worrying about being fat and no she is not fat at all. My sis is 12, 5'3 and in the 6th grade as well, she weighs around 105 but she is slender & her body is well toned cause she's athletic. You should give your sister support on being muscular at such a young age and make her feel good about her body.

I weighed less at her age and was a little shorter. That's about what I weigh now, and I'm almost 14. Losing weight is a terrible idea.

Teza answered Friday October 14 2005, 6:42 pm:
Your sister is perfect for her age. She isn't fat and she doesn't need to loose weight. Now if she thinks she is, she can just eat healthier things but it doesn't have to be those diet foods because they aren't really healthy. She can walk around the neighborhood for 20 minutes to get a little exercise. Don't let her diet because she is still young and she doesn't need to loose any weight.
