syireen answered Sunday October 9 2005, 1:48 am: a hamster is a good choice i had 2 hamsters for half a year and i can say from experiance that their very easy to take care of. It dosn't matter what kind of cage you get as long as you get A age .hamsters are very clever and if you dont have a cage they will find a way to escape and run around. any way i think if you like the cute unique type of hamsters you should get a siberian hamster their so cute and playful! and also i think you would only have to clean the cage like once a week or 2 weeks probley if it dosn't start smelling..
jessicatrujillo answered Monday September 5 2005, 9:56 pm: I have had a hamster before too here are all your answers to you question.
you should get a metal cage because they can chew there way out I'm not sure about the name, you should clean the cage weekend, when you cleant he cage just dump the hole thing into a garbage bag then put new stuff in, the hamster to least likely to bite is a teddy bear hamster you know the fat chunck ones they are so sweet mine never bit me, the cutest is the one I just said,I'm not sure what a dwarf hamster is but get the teddy bear one, And I'm not sure what the different is it's probely the size or how there attitude is. Hoped I helped and good luck finding your cuty. [ jessicatrujillo's advice column | Ask jessicatrujillo A Question ]

dancesnrain answered Monday August 29 2005, 3:26 pm: Type of Cage : The Pet Store will tell you what kind you need... You can use a Fish tank also... a big one though.. doesn't have to be huge... but big enough so the hamster can move around freely, have a wheel, put it's food and water bottle in it... Type in "Hamster Care" into a google search engine.
Cleaning Cage : Once a week is pretty good. But put new shavings in every day or so... it keeps your room from stinking.. because hamsters do tend to smell pretty bad.
All hamsters bite... but if you handle your gently and hold it at least once or twice a day, it'll get used to human contact and will be less likely to bite. Just be gentle and don't startle it.
Any type of hamster is fine... whichever one you want... the pet store will usually have a lot to choose from... whichever one you like the most is the one to go for. :)
AfroCowSlayer answered Friday August 26 2005, 7:41 pm: Since you don’t know anything about hamsters maybe you should not get one I mean they are really easy to take care of but here is something’s to help you if you must get one, 1st the kind of cage you need to get: there al all types you can get even a 10 gallon fish tank will work and some things you may need for a hamster are cedar chips bedding a hamster weal and to clean the cage all you do is take the chips out and put more in and I would say clean it every other week and dwarf hamsters and regular hamsters will bite I had both I think the best hamster for you to get is a teddy bear hamster.. PS. the difference between them is dwarf hamsters are smaller... [ AfroCowSlayer's advice column | Ask AfroCowSlayer A Question ]
VainTaraLynn answered Thursday August 25 2005, 8:03 pm: Aw, lol. If you go to a pet store they will direct you where the hampster cages are. If you get just one hampster, the cage shouldnt be that big. You should clean it once a week or once every 2 weeks depending on the smell, how many ythere is, and how dirty the cage gets. You clean the cage by dumping the bedding into the garbage, and putting new bedding in. Very easy. There isnt a certain breed of hampsters that bite more than others, all hampsters have different personalities. As for cutest hampster, it depends on personal preferance, you'll have to look for yourself and decide. Regular hampsters are bigger in size, dwarf hampsters are tiny, hence the name dwarf. Just go to a pet store and they`ll explain evrything to you, dont fret. =) [ VainTaraLynn's advice column | Ask VainTaraLynn A Question ]

Teza answered Wednesday August 24 2005, 6:38 pm: Aww, I had a hamster. It died though. For the cage it doesn't matter. Just don't get a cage that is all with wires. Make sure it has some plastic so its more comfy. Whatever you like get it. You clean the cage once a week. You usually get good shavings for them. Get ones that smell good. Do not use soap or any cleaning stuff to clean it. Hamsters do not like that and its not good! You can simply clean it with just warm water or just by taking the shaving out and putting new ones. Hamsters dont even bite that much. I got my hammy when she was 5 or 6 weeks old and she did bite but only because she was still a baby and she was afraid. Mine was a dwarf hamster and it was the cutest thing in the world! Lol! There are also teddy bear hamsters but they are bigger. But I think that dwarf hamsters are soo much cuter!! Do not wash your hamster with soap!! The girl who said to must be crazy. You never do that to a lil animal like a hamster. They can die by being wet like that. When I cleaned my hamsters cage I would take a really small soft tooth brush and I would put some water on it and brush her fur. She liked it and you can get her clean like that. But hamsters dont need baths, they clean them selves. Make sure you change their water every 2 days! & Never put a full bowl of food. If you want to keep your hamster healthy get treats! Yes hamsters do have treats lol! I bought my hamster these little fruit and veggies and seeds. I gave it to her once in a while and it was healthy for her. They also love attention. They play more at night then during the day. Get some toys for it. Like a ball and little peaces of wood that it can chew on. It made their teeth sharper and my hamster liked it lots! Take good care of your hamster!

sunnyville answered Wednesday August 24 2005, 6:04 pm: Get a cage called a terrarium and clean the cage like every week at least.Clean the change just by using a paper towel or cloth with water or if they may have a special spray or bottle to clean it just ask a person who works in the petshop.I would highly recommend you get a baby hamster so it won't bite and it'll get used to you easily. The hamster that is the cutest would be one that has nice hair but not messy. You should get a dwarf hamster.A regular hamster easily has health issues and is harder to handle.A dwarf hamster is a very popular hamster and are sensitive to a diquieting environment. mystical_breeze answered Wednesday August 24 2005, 5:50 pm: Okay I had a hamster, and they usally live 1-3 years. For cages, go to: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) BUT When you go to the pet shop to buy a hamster, the person that works there will recomend the best cage.
You clean the cage every week or every other week. ALL hamsters bite, but only when they're bothered or afraid. It doesn't matter what hamster you get, because they're all really cute. A dwark hamster is smaller then a regular one, and a teddy bear hamster is really tiny also. Hamster have little pink tails, and they need to have a bath once a month in order for their fur to stay better looking (have the bath like in a sink with only a little bit of warm water and a bar of soap). Hamsters sleep during the day and make a lot of noise during the nightime on their excercise wheels.
