Sisters kids My sister is coming to visit me from out of town. She has 2 kids ages 1 and 3. I don't have kids of my own and am a single guy, which means I know nothing about having little kids around the house. Can someone maybe give me some tips on what I might need to do to childproof my house before they get here? I don't want my nephews getting hurt!

Put all animals outside and keep them there. Put out a bunch of toys for the kids and put a blanket down for them to sit or sleep on. Put little fences up on stairs, or anything you think they'll get into. Toddlers are curious so they love to touch everything. Good luck! Hope I helped! ]
buy outlet covers for electrical outlets. if you have area rugs that move a lot buy some of that rubber rugs. they go under the rug so they can't trip on them. make sure all of you electrical wires are covered in some way. you might want to buy a gate or two to keep kids out of the kitchen when you cook or if you have stairs.

Remove anything breakable or that you don't want them to touch high enough that they can't reach it.
Hide anything that's small enough to fit in their mouth. If it'll fit, they'll try to put it in.
Put all cleaners up where they can't reach or invest in some cabinet locks. They're fairly inexpensive and keep them from being able to open the cabinet.
If you have pets, put their food dishes, litter box, etc where the kids can't get to them. Also if your pets aren't used to being around kids, it might be a good idea to put them somewhere the kids can't get too them. A child can sometimes be rough without realizing it.
Put any medications, vitamins, etc where they can't reach.
Put plastic bags out of reach.
Invest in some outlet protectors. They're fairly cheap, about a dollar or two for a pack of 10. Put them in any outlets that do not have something plugged in.
If you have tablecloths on any tables, remove them so the kids can't pull whatever is on the tables down on them.
Make sure any cords and wires are hidden.
Keep the bathroom door shut.
Shut all doors inside or invest in some bumper guards for your doors. They block the door from shutting all the way, preventing little fingers from getting smashed.
If you have rugs down and you can trip on them, take them up.
When cooking, try to cook on the back burners if at all possible. Make sure knives are placed far back on the counter. If you use a dish towel, put it far back on the counter. ]
put away all glass , move sharp corners away like from a table , keep medicine high up , put away any little things that a child can swallow , set up an area for them , dont have heavy objects on the floor that a child can pull on and fall on them , pick long wires up or phone cords a child can get tangled and they can get it stuck around their neck choking them , same with the string for the blinds they can get their neck around it and choke and die ,no plastic bags around if they put it over their head they can sufficate , put the plastic things over the outlites , table clothes should be eliminated because they can pull on them and all the things on the table will fall on them , gate any room you dont want them in , make sure knives , staples , any thing shap is away and thats pretty much it . ]
dont leave out small items anywhere...if you dont want the kids in a room, just close the door and most likely they wont be able to open it by themselves. keep medicines & other dangerous liquids/pills out of reach....* ]
just watch stuff like expensive stuff sitting ontop of tables. little kids like to knock that stuff off. also try to put small things away in your house so they dont try eating them ]
All open outlets COVER THEM. Anything that's really high or furniture that's not sturdy, take things off of it so that it doesn't come crashing down and hurting them. If you have any glassware or anything with sharpe edges that could be within their reach, move it. When you or your sister is cooking make sure the handles to the pots and pans are facing inside the stove, not hanging out over so they can grab it. Any small objects that they would put in their mouths, figurines that you may have on display or something, move them into a safe spot. All cleaning products move into one general area and put a lock on the cubbord.
