I'm getting my belly button pierced either today or tomorrow and I'm really kinda freaked out. Some people tell me it dosen't hurt at all and some people tell me it hurts like hell. Is it different for everybody? Has anyone gotten their belly button pierced and they piercer got it crooked or something? Thanks!
BlackBeltxO answered Tuesday August 23 2005, 10:18 pm: Usually the peircer will make a dot & ask if you think its straight. If you look & its not just tell them to fix it, if they get mad, so what... its their job. You cant really ask someone else if it hurts because everyone has a different tolerance of pain. When i got mine done, the clamp hurt worse than the needle. But none of it was bad at all. But im good with pain. Its up to how you handle it. Just prepare yourself for the worst, so if you think tis gonna be horrible & its not.. you will be surprised. [ BlackBeltxO's advice column | Ask BlackBeltxO A Question ]
HEARTXBREAKER answered Tuesday August 23 2005, 3:35 pm: my mom and sister got it done. my mom said it hurts and my sister said it didn't. it really just depends on your pain tolerancy.. if you don't get hurt easily then it probably won't hurt, but if you do then it might. think carefully if you really want it done. i think they're really cute and it would be worth the pain! There is a scale of pain levels for piercings. Piercings around your waist area or genitals are the highest. The further up you go, the less pain you will get.
For example, my eyebrow and tongue was a slight sting. My nipples were slightly more painfull, and my navel was the most painful. Even though my belly button was the most painful, it still was not that bad and didn't last very long.
Afterwards, clean it 3-5 or more times a day, yadda yadda, I could go on but your not asking about that.
Anyway, if you want to ensure that the piercer doesn't get it crooked (mine is, you need to be very careful about that) then you should do a little research on the piercer. Get some credentials, talk to some people who have been there previously, ask how much training they have, how much professional expereience, how long they've been at that certain shop, etc, etc,...
Also, make sure they give you plenty of information on how to keep the piercing clean. Especially if this is your first body piercing (harder to take care of than your ears). If they don't bother to give you plenty of info, then they must not care about the quality of their work very much.
azngemini answered Monday August 22 2005, 11:40 pm: well, i have a belly button piercing, and it didnt really hurt.. like maybe only for 2-5 seconds, and the pain wasn't even that painful. i think everyone that gets their piercing done professionally(like done by a piercer) gets their piercing done the same way. and i highly doubt that your piercing will be crooked because they use a clamp with holes to indicate where to pierce.
you shouldn't be freaking out about it so much. it's not as big a deal as you're making it seem. but i think it's really cool that you're getting your belly button pierced, and.. i should tell you that before you get it pierced, make sure you've eaten something. i forgot why, but the guy that pierced my belly button said that it would be better and stuff.. lol

If the person who does it messes up, my grand daughters friend died because of it.

girlygirl answered Monday August 22 2005, 3:56 pm: Don't freak out! I had mine done at 36, and yes I still have the stomach for it. It feels a little uncomfortable at the time they are doing it, cause they use a clamp to pinch the section of skin, but it's just like if you pinch your skin. Then... truthfully for the next 7 days mine hurt like hell, even when just the slightest thing brushed it. The best thing to do is wash it with antiseptic and the anti-bacterial spray at least 3 times a day! i know it sounds crazy, but mine never ever got infected and only hurt during that first week. good luck! orphans answered Monday August 22 2005, 3:55 pm: I got mine pierced about 2 weeks ago. I guess it is different for everyone, because some people can handle pain well and others can't. In my opinion it didn't hurt a lot, it was just a pinch and a tingle that lasted for about 2-5 seconds. I don't think it is worse than getting your ears pierced, but that's just my opinion. Actually, when the piercer did mine, it did look kind of crooked. She said she'd do it again on another angle but still go through the same hole. I didn't end up getting it redone, and now it doesn't look crooked at all. I guess it just has to settle or something.
If you do happen to get your belly pierced, please please PLEASE clean it twice a day with saltwater and clean the 'crusties' with Saline solution. Do NOT play with it and don't touch it if you hadn't washed your hands first.
I hope this makes sense, and I hope I helped.
