im either really really really really happy or extremely pissed off or depressingly sad. i think i could be bipolar. what does that consist of? what do i do? anything....
TheOldOne answered Thursday August 18 2005, 4:15 pm: Just to clarify, bipolar does NOT mean that you have two personalities (that's Multiple Personality Disorder, also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder).
To be bipolar simply means that you fluctuate between two emotional extremes. That can be happy and sad, as you've described. For others, it can be between depressed and irritable. There are a lot of possibilities.
Some manifest their "manic" or "up" stage with hyperactivity, hypersexuality, or by practically drunken happiness. Others manifest it by going on shopping binges (really!). What I'm trying to tell you is that bipolar is complicated, and comes in many different forms, and only a psychiatrist can diagnose you accurately.
The good news is that it IS treatable, usually with a combination of medication and talk therapy. I won't lie to you; it can take a long time and a lot of tries to get the combination of meds right for a patient. But as long as you keep at it and don't give up, the odds are excellent that you can get on an even keel and lead a stable, happy life.
That is, if you ARE bipolar. If you're a teen, you may just be going through normal hormonal swings. But if your feelings are bothering you enough to ask about them here, they're serious enough for you to speak to your doctor. She or he should be able to refer you to a specialist, probably a psychiatrist, for a full evaluation.

It just means you're happy and then you get mad for no reason and you always have mood changes. The doctor will give you something and its nothing bad. Its normal with a lot of people. Dakmor answered Thursday August 18 2005, 3:39 pm: Bipolar means a split personality, you have like 2 different people inside you. Like that guy 2-face, I think he was in Batman movies. Anyway, what you described is sort of tripolar. There's nothing wrong with having a split personality. Everyone has their quirks. They just show a lot more on certain people... like me, we still don't know what's wrong with me yet. [ Dakmor's advice column | Ask Dakmor A Question ]
xXxpinky615xXx answered Thursday August 18 2005, 3:36 pm: Well, going by what you've told us, you do seem to have symptoms of bipolar disorder. You can refer to this site for some more information: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
But no one on here can diagnose you with bipolar disorder. Sure, it sounds like you may have it but only a licenced doctor can diagnose you.
My advice to you is to talk to your parents about it and see if you could possibly go in for counseling and to see a doctor.
The good thing is, you're addressing that there is something wrong. Now you need to take it to the next step and try to go see a doctor.
