religion doesn't make much sense to me in any way. i respect everyone's religion and try to learn some of them but i always come out of it saying "how can they believe that?!" so i kinda make up my own religion. it's a combination of a lot of religions. i am no religion but what i truly hate is that when you declare that you don't believe in God you are an athiest but that is a religion in itself. I AM NO RELIGION. and people just don't seem to get that. evolution makes total sense to me and i'm not sure why it shouldn't be tought in schools. when i was little(3 yrs old) my mom told me the story of Adam and Eve and how eve was created from Adam's rib or something like that and thats how all humans began to walk the earth. that made no sense at all. how did adam get there and if God created adam then where did God come from? it's an endless cycle of questions that can't really be answered. i've tried praying but it just seems like i'm talking to myself. my point in this long paragraph that i'm sorry you had to read is that although there is no proof people are alowed to believe what they want. after all, children believe there are monsters under their beds even though their parents have proven it that there are none.

thanks for reading

Serendipity answered Tuesday August 23 2005, 3:24 am:
Yes, evolution makes a lot of sense. There is also a lot of evidence to prove it, like a skeleton named "Lucy" found in Africa that looks like a human that still hasn't completely evolved from an ape. Religion seems much less believable to me. Here are my reasons:

In my opinion, religion was created to:
a) make people feel better about things like dying, poverty, disease, etc. (It's all in God's plan.)
b) keep the masses under control. (Don't be bad, or you'll burn in Hell!)
c) keep troubling things from happening (Don't give into natural urges and make babies before you marry or you'll burn in Hell!)
d) keep people from getting too curious about opposing the daily way of life. (If the religious leader tells you to do it, you must or you'll burn in Hell!)

Organied religion has kept many intelligent people from asking questions that may throw off our way of life. For example, whenever something bad happens, Christians reassure themselves with "it's all in God's plan." Was the Holocaust in God's plan? Were the millions and millions of starving and homeless people part of God's plan? Was it in God's plan for Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln to get assassinated? If so, I would never want to believe in a God that made such terrible things happen.

Christians live their lives with so many guidelines that they do not have total freedom to be and do what they want. I just find it foolish to let yourself be controlled by some being that you can't see. Christians live their lives so they can enter heaven. Non-religious people live their lives to the fullest, not knowing what lies ahead.

Sorry if I offended anyone, it's just my opinion.

how does evolution makes sense to you?
the bible has historic accurasy and physical evidence.
people think they found noahs ark in the middle east. the ark was in the bible, there is still the hill over there where christ was cricified.
the bible is the most accurate book you can read.
it doesnt really make sense to me how some one can think that everything was just by chance. thats too much chance and there isnt any evidence to back it up.
the earth was created in six days, and all of that is recorded in genesis...
other than that,
you have to have faith in what you believe
because if you dont,
you have
no religon at all.
you're just kinda there.
-hope it helps you spiritually-

Well to me... evolution emanated from two atoms colliding. It just seems like, well, where did the atoms come from and why? Why are we here on this earth just to die? How bout that feeling you get when you just feel someone is with you/ behind you... and really nobody is physically there. That's what makes God real to me. Surely everything has it's rhyme or reason... wouldn't it be great to think there's another being in control and we're not all alone? And believing in evolution could possibly result in going to a hell if there was a God (which there is)... but say you believed in God and there was none, and evolution was correct... there would be no penalty. So why not believe?

Azngangsta answered Thursday August 18 2005, 12:38 am:
Well, just keep this in mind. The Bible was NOT MADE TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY! You know where it says that he made man out of clay (well I'm not sure cuz I don't read the Bible... I'm not a very good Catholic...)Who said God can't create evoulution? What if the clay is a symbol of the organisms building up together to form man? Who says that the Earth was made in 7 EARTH DAYS? This is highly unlikely. Maybe God's day last billions of years. What God could've done, was make man out of the organisms that pull together to make a new species and let them be. THEN as the earth changes, Charles Darwin's theroy comes into play, causing evoulution because of the "survival of the fittest"

Heavan on the other hand... Well, isn't it nice to think that when you die (and you've lived a rightous life), you go to a place where you're body is perfict, and you can have anything you want (I'm not sure what that is though...) It kinda makes me want to go to Heaven now.

Well I hope I helped and I hope I didn't confuse you!

I try to avoid religious debate, because it tends to be fruitless and frustrating. By its nature, religion really can't be debated; debate presumes logic, and religion is pure emotion, albeit often cloaked in pseudo-logic.

I did get kind of dragged into the issue once here, though. Here's a link to the question and my response:

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

In short, I'm an atheist. I was once a Christian, but came to the conclusion that the supernatural simply made no sense to me...and I saw no reason other than special pleading to place the Christian God and mythos into a separate category from all other supernatural beliefs, from Santa Claus to Zoroastrianism.

That's not fashionable to say, of course, and it certainly isn't the sort of thing that gets you wide social acceptance - at least, not in the modern US. But as a rationalist, I have no other option. I have to uphold what I believe is the truth, or I'd have no self-respect.

Okay, I'm A Baptist and I believe in God because evolution doesn't make sense with out God. See, there wouldn't be anything in our world, with out him... Lets think, What made the earth, sun, moon and the stars. I believe that God unveals himdelf in odd situations, look into fate, accidents, things that happen out of the blue, chance, and luck... Someone or thing has to control what goes on in the universe or everytihng would be chaos. I think of it as a powere bigger then us, wether it be nature, god, allah, buddah, etc.. Most religions, also show similar properties, like good, and evil, right and wrong, ying and yang... Most scientist's have beliefs too... There should be a theory, well there is, about how God is in evolution, If your still intrested, look at the Big Bang Theory... I'm sorry this is so long. Hope I Helped...You'll find you faith or should I say Fate... Jack.

Shortcake22 answered Thursday August 18 2005, 12:19 am:
In my mind, theres no doubt about it, Creation is real and evolution is wrong. There really is no proof of evolution either. But there is no explaination of how God got there. He just always was. But Creation says that God made up the earth in seven days, and he reached down, made adam out of earth, and blew breath into him. Sounds crazy, right? You're right, it is crazy. Thats where faith comes in. you just have to trust that the lord is real, and he will take care of you. It really doesnt matter if you believe or not. If you go through your life believing that God is not real, it doesnt change the fact that there is a God, a heaven, and a hell, and those who do not believe, will go to hell. I hate to be so blunt, but theres no point in sugar coating it. I have researched this subject for classes and personal reasons in the past, but I looked up some stuff for you. Here is what I found:

Background- Many people out to prove evolution argue that there is proof that the earth is older that the bible states. But let me point out that no one knows how long a day was or a year was in biblical times. It probably wasnt the same as it is today. Plus, there is proof that the earth is young. Be patient with me

Proof evolution is wrong

Decay of the Earths magnetic field
-Evolutionists have constructed the Geologic Column in order to illustrate the supposed progression of "primitive" life forms to "more complex" systems we observe today. Yet, "since only a small percentage of the earth's surface obeys even a … portion of the geologic column…the claim of their having taken place to form a continuum of rock/life/time…over the earth is therefore a fantastic and imaginative contrivance.1" "The lack of transitional series cannot be explained as being due to the scarcity of material. The deficiencies are real, they will never be filled."2 This supposed column is actually saturated with "polystrate fossils" (fossils extending from one geologic layer to another) that tie all the layers to one time-frame. "To the unprejudiced, the fossil record of plants is in favor of special creation."

Helium Content in the earths atmosphere
-Physicist Melvin Cook, Nobel Prize medalist found that helium-4 enters our atmosphere from solar wind and radioactive decay of uranium. At present rates our atmosphere would accumulate current helium-4 amounts in less than 10,000 years.

I only gave you two points.

Theres like 9 or 10 on the site I looked up.
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
^^there it is if you want to look for yourself

I really hope I helped and I hope you find out for yourself what you believe. I in no way am trying to push this on you, I just want to give you the point of view like you asked.

ACWNS09 answered Thursday August 18 2005, 12:06 am:
I went through a period in my life where I began to question all my beliefs about two years ago. I began to wonder if God was real, and since I tend to be a little cynical, for a little while, I renounced him. After that, I went through some rough times, but thanks to someone, I believe in him again. I really can't answer your question, but I can tell you that I do believe in God. I have no proof that he is real, but sometimes the things you need to believe aren't necessarily true. You have to believe in something. If I don't, I get depressed, because face it, if there is no God, we are just wasting our time here, life is pointless. I can't accept that my life has no meaning, so I truly believe that God is real. That's just my opinion, I hope I helped you a little.
