Question Posted Tuesday August 2 2005, 5:24 pm

I am seventeen, and I've had my period for about 4 years. It has always been regular [never late. always early or on time.] Right now it's 2 weeks late, and I know irregular periods are completely normal for someone who's had it for a couple years. But shouldn't it be pretty regular by now? I am NOT sexually active, so there is no way I am pregnant. (My mom is freaking out and telling me to confess already, ha.) Anyways, should I be a little worried that it's THIS late?

No.

My wife had irregular periods for the first few years of our relationship (her new birth control kicks ass apparently though). It's nothing to worry about.

Laugh at your mother. Then, go out tonight and buy cabbage, bbq sauce, and gummi bears, and make yourself a salad and eat it in front of her. Afterwards, go to your room like nothing happened, and quietly puke the disgusting shit you just ate to fuck with your mom. Glory in being seventeen.

::Edit::

And pickles or watermelon. You're not really pregnant unless you're eating pickles or watermelon.

as your body develops it is natural for your period to come later than usual. i wouldnt worry since you arent sexually active because there are several factors that can cause a later period. stress, diet, hormone enbalance..i wouldnt worry to much unless it doesnt show up for a couple of months. however if your period is going to start being irregular you can get on birth control to help. i would talk it over with your mother first since she is quite worried about your sexual activity...

no, I read in cosmopolitan that your period can dissapear for up to three months and you still have nothing to worry about. But I would go and check it out with my gyno just to make sure

It should be regular by now, but that doesn't mean anything. Each person is different, so don't be too worried since you aren't sexually active. If you're still uncomfortable with your period because irregular, get put on birth control and that SHOULD regulate it.

It's normal. At least I hope so because I'm 16 and I've had mine since I was 9 and its never been regular.

Variations are normal. A whole bunch of things can effect your period, most often stress or changes in your diet. But as a girl who is often rather late I'd like to give you a warning, as soon as your period starts, start taking advil or midol or whatever you take for cramps or pain and take the biggest dose you can because in my experience, the later you are, the more it hurts.

It's normal to have occasional variations on your period, even after 4 years. Dietary changes, illness, exercise changes, stress, even medications can have an effect on your period.

Since you mom is freaking out, ask her to take you to the gyno for a checkup. Your gyno can confirm the fact that you're still a virgin (which will calm her down) and see what's causing your period to be late.

I wouldn't worry about this too much, hun. Even though your period has always been regular, it can switch over to irregular, it's normal. Your period will come around in time, don't worry. Since you are not sexually active at all, there is no way you can be pregnant. Don't worry though. It happens to a lot of girls. It's not only you :)
