Because it's not up to you to decide whether somebody is a good Christian or not. I thought part of the Christian belief was that only GOD can judge, or do you just ignore that part? You'll probably think I'm just saying this to be a bitch but I think you should concern yourself with your OWN beliefs. What everybody believes or doesn't believe isn't any of your business just like your religion isn't any of their business. Maybe somebody thinks that YOU should stop calling yourself a Christian, but they've been nice enough not to say anything. Try putting yourself in someone else's shoes. And if you were such a great Christian yourself, you'd give up your computer and your home and live a life of poverty. You know, the way Jesus did?

Okay im not tryin to be mean at all im a very strong christian and i wonder the same thing you do. But you cant worry about that all you can do is be as nice as you can and pray for them. Some people arent open people - its just how God made them. And maybe theyre not at that step yet but whatever it is they'll have to take that up with the Lord, not you. So just pray for them and tell God your worries

Some Christians who are saved are scared to share there faith because they really truley in your heart dont believe in him and they only want to be saved so they can go to heaven! Or they can just be shy about that kind of stuff! Try praying for them. and keep up the good work!=)

It's really not fair for you to claim that those who would be scared to die for God aren't Christians. It's hard for people to grasp the concept of death, and you say you would die for Him right now, but how can you be so positive that if you were actually put in the situation that you would follow through with your word? These people are just being honest and saying that they'd be afraid. Can you honestly say that if someone put your face up to a burning stove and said "Do you believe in God?" you would say yes? Also, it's a sin to be proud and degrade your fellow Christians.

I understand your frustrations. I'm a Christian too who went to private school for nine years. Everybody was really sheltered and weren't around any unbelievers. I think that's why. They never experienced meeting somebody different. Like a goth, gay, or other kind of people. I managed to witness a little but i wasn't really used to it. Im about to go into my second year of public school and i'm getting better at it. Some people who say they're Christians arent. So get used to that. But for those who you know for sure are Christians maybe just haven't faced situations like you. Give them some time and you'll see. You just do your part for our Heavenly Father and He will see to the rest. God Bless!!!

DangerWench answered Saturday July 30 2005, 7:22 pm:
I agree that there are many, many, many false Christians in the world.

There are also many different ways to help others see what true Christianity is... "Christian" has become a bad word in society. So many of those false Christians have gone around and done bad, judgmental, and un-Christian things in the name of Christianity, that many non-Christians think that's the way all Christians are, and think they are just a bunch of whacked-out hypocrites.

Because of this, just walking up to someone to tell them about Christ makes many, many people automatically defensive and put up strong mental barriers that you can't get past no matter what.

In today's society, it can be a good idea to just share your faith by example. Be a good Christian and help people you don't have to... Give your time and efforts to other people, and serve others like Christ did. Then when people ask you why you are being so nice and acting so unselfish and different from other people, you can tell them it's because this is the way Christ really wants Christians to be, loving everybody like we love ourselves. Then you can let them know that many, many people who call themselves Christians (including a BUNCH of big old famous preacher types) are not living the way Christ said to in the Bible, so they aren't really Christians.

Once people understand that their idea of Christians is based on lies, that gives you a great opportunity to explain how none of us is good enough to go to Heaven, no matter how good and kind we are, not even you... Because we have all broken at least one of God's Laws at some point, and only perfect people who have never sinned, ever, can go to Heaven. Which opens the way for you to tell them how Christ, the Son of God, became human for us so that he could live a perfect, sin-less life FOR us, and be a sacrifice FOR us, so that we might be forgiven our sins if we ask God in the name of Christ. Because, as you know, good works won't get anybody to Heaven, ONLY asking forgiveness in the name of Christ can.

One of the sad things is that non-Christians don't KNOW that all these false Christians aren't living by the Bible... Because non-Christians don't know the Bible, they assume that all these hypocrites are going by what the Bible says, and if so, the Bible must be hypocritical like them, so who needs that.

But as true Christians know, the Bible condemns the actions of false Christians. Unfortunately the world is DROWNING in false Christians. That's why people put up this mental wall when you say "Christian" and I can't really blame them. And that's why it can be best to give them an example of a good Christian before ever mentioning Christ.

Missionaries, for example, are over in many different countries risking their lives to help people. They aren't just over there going village to village and standing there preaching, singing a few songs, passing the plate, then moving on (like some modern-day preachers would)... They are over there digging wells, planting crops, helping the sick, helping the poor, building shelters, and in the meantime letting people know that the reason they are there doing these things is because of Christ. I'm not worthy to scrape the mud off of their shoes. That is true LOVE and sacrifice.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, just because a Christian isn't standing outside the Wal-Mart with a Bible in their hand asking people if they know Christ, doesn't mean they aren't working for Christ in other ways. Everybody has different gifts, and our Father works in mysterious ways. :-)

As for why the false Christians keep calling themselves Christians? The answer to that is very simple. It gives Christians a bad name and keeps others from accepting the free Gift of Forgiveness that any of us can ask for. It's a tool of the enemy to keep people from the Truth and it's doing its work very well. They don't even know they are a tool of the enemy. Which is extra sad. Because of that, they are very likely to go to Hell because they won't listen to anything you say. They already think they are saved. :-(

Have you ever seen movies where there is someone that somebody is trying to find, so someone sends out a bunch of look-alikes to confuse everybody as to who the real person is? That's what the enemy is doing with Christianity. The enemy loves confusion and lies.

This reminds me of a quote by Mahatma Gandhi that sums up what I feel is happening to so many "Christians" in the world:

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

If you want to know more about how to reach people in the way that Christ reached people, you might take the example of the actor Kirk Cameron, who was saved by this very same teaching. It is fun, and it's less than 1 hour to listen to:

ok...you have to understand people who wont die for god still can be devout christians. im a christian, ive never really been faced with the situation of dying for god so im not sure what id say. but i do go to church every sunday, and go to a private religious school. dying is a very big thing for some people, some people can follow god just as you do, but are not ready to give up their life. it doesnt mean that they are afraid to share their faith. god doesnt require you to die for him or atleast not as i know of. hope this gives you an opinion.

You apparntly dobn't know too many true Christians then because the ones I know will almost force it uppon poor innocent victims on the street and go to Harrisburg "street preaching" multiple times a month! It all depends on your personality and where you stand in your faith. What if you were so shy you couldn't even call into a radio station, would you really want to be spreading the Word face to face with strangers????

Ease up and concentrate on your own faith and what You can do.

TheOldOne answered Saturday July 30 2005, 6:36 am:
There are many different sects of Christianity, and not all agree with each other on how to interpret different passages in the Bible.

As a result, they don't all share the same understanding of how to proselytize.

In general, older, more established "mainstream" Christian sects tend to become more "respectable". Evangelizing, by its very nature, shakes society up; it rocks the boat. Sects which have become part of the social elite naturally resist disrupting the fabric of society.

It's like this. If a church has a lot of rich, socially-respected members, they don't want things to change too much. Change is risky when you have a lot; it's more likely that you could lose the good things that you have.

A poor church, on the other hand, has less to lose and more to gain by spreading the word and gaining more members.

Historically, there have been many churches that wouldn't WANT to convert a bunch of poor people - they wouldn't want those people to come to their church.

I should point out that this isn't true only of Christian churches; it's common for all sorts of religions, and for clubs and organizations, too.

Now, as for dying for God: that worries me. Because the truth is, people don't die for God; they die for what THEY THINK God wants. According to Christian theology (and in fairness I should note that I'm not a Christian, although I've read the Bible many times), human beings are imperfect. We're all flawed with the taint of Original Sin, and Christ was the only perfect human being. So when we are willing to die (or kill) for God, there's a very good chance that we will be WRONG.

The terrorists on 9/11 believed that they were dying for God. You, I'm sure, believe that they were wrong; that their god was a false one. You may be right. I'm not a Moslem, either, so I have no opinion on that.

The point is that human beings are flawed, and make mistakes; that's very clear, if you read the Bible. And your life is a gift from God. To sacrifice that life without being sure that you're doing what God wants you to do with it is wrong. Isn't it? And you can't really be sure.

The Bible is very large, and even people who've studied it all their lives can't always agree on what it all means. So I'd suggest studying it for yourself, and thinking (and praying) very hard about it.

You can certainly share the good word. But since you're living in a tolerant, pluralistic society, part of your resposibility as a member of that society is to allow others the right not to believe as you do. You cannot FORCE others to believe; it simply doesn't work.

And remember, Jesus commanded his followers to respect the laws of the land:

And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. (Mark 12:17)

I believe that the most effective evangelizing technique is to lead others to the Word by your own example, for the most part. Live the best life that you can, in service to others and to God, and those that witness your dedication will be inspired to follow your path.
