ok well my friend told me this:if your around alot of poeple who are on there periods, then your body reacts and thinks that its supose to be to and you have your period, even if its not the right time. is that true or what?
ncblondie answered Wednesday July 27 2005, 2:17 pm: This is true. When I lived at home with my mom and two sisters, we all had our periods around the same time. When I went to college, the entire hall I was on in the dorm pretty much had periods around the same time also. [ ncblondie's advice column | Ask ncblondie A Question ]

sarcasticgal1221 answered Wednesday July 27 2005, 11:06 am: Not 100%. What tends to happen is that girls who spend a lot of time around each other-- usually if they live together, like in a dorming situation-- their cycles will regulate such that they all get their period at the same time. This does not always happen, and there is no actual scientific proof of this, but it does happen. My 3 roommates and I all get our periods within 1-2 days of each other. TheOldOne answered Wednesday July 27 2005, 6:29 am: If women live together, they're very likely to find their periods moving towards the same time (in other words, they "synchronize").
But it doesn't happen instantly; it usually takes over several months. And the women must be around each other a LOT, more than, for example, a bunch of girls in a classroom at school.
iSLAND_iNTHE_SUNx0 answered Wednesday July 27 2005, 4:27 am: I think I read that in a magazine a few years ago. But I *think* its quite true. Its because, since you're around those people often, you're doing the same things as them. If you walk to a lot of places, both or all of you are all walking at the same time and doing the same amount of activity. So you'll get your periods around the same time. When I hung out with my one friend all the time, we got our periods close to the same time, since we were doing the same kind of stuff. So yes, I think its true.

Solaris answered Wednesday July 27 2005, 3:40 am: No its not true. Your body has its own cycle. If that were true, you could have a period every 3 days or so....

MFS answered Wednesday July 27 2005, 1:52 am: Yes, the menstrual cycles will begin to synch up... I've witnessed this between female roommates in college. All 4 of them had their periods at the same time, within a day or two of each other. It really does happen.
But it won't happen with just casual contact... you have to have constant contact/interaction with the other women. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]
