Karen answered Saturday July 23 2005, 10:05 am: If you're going to use Bearshare, don't, because it does give your computer viruses. I have Limewire and I haven't gotten a virus yet from this program. [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
x_mystery answered Friday July 22 2005, 11:05 pm: They're both filesharing programs, therefore, can both give you viruses. Anything that shares files with other computers - without an official scanning process (which neither has) can give you a virus or spyware. They're alright to use, just make sure you check your computer with anti-virus and anti-spyware (I reccomend either Norton or McAfee) frequently. ncblondie answered Friday July 22 2005, 10:49 pm: Any downloading program can give you a virus. Some people seem to find it fun to attach viruses to the files. These viruses are often hidden in seemingly innocent files.
To protect yourself, do not download any programs (files that end in .exe) or if you do, make sure to scan them with your anti-virus before opening. [ ncblondie's advice column | Ask ncblondie A Question ]
MummuM answered Friday July 22 2005, 10:33 pm: I don't think Limewire does, but I know for a fact that Bearshare has. I have the Ares downloader and it's great! I never have a problem with it. I think you should check it out. Just go to this site, [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) and type in "Ares".
