Question Posted Tuesday July 19 2005, 2:04 pm

This years camp play was supposed to be Annie. I wanted to be annie so bad! But the counciler said I was really good. So I got the part. The next day on stage I was getting my costume on. The tiny red dress, just didnt fit. It ripped in half! I mean I know im overweight but I have never ripped clothes before! What do I do to get a new dress? I cant buy one! The play is 3 nights! HELP!

ScratchesOnTheWall answered Thursday August 18 2005, 4:31 am:
Firstly, theatre costumes rip all the time because they are battered about on stage and often have been adusted for people who used them previously. Trust me the amount of costumes I have destroyed over the years...

Anyway, these girls are right, do you not have a costume lady who sorts this stuff out and measures you all? There's no need to be embarrased about telling her or your counciler it ripped. If they don't know, tell them that all they need to do to fix it (i'm assuming the rip is on the body somewhere rather than the skirt) and alter it at the same time is to get a piece of red material and sew one end to one side of the rip and the other end to the other. This is most likely what they would have done to make a significant alteration anyway so you've just done half the work for them!

Good luck with the play

Do you have another dress? Or maybe a skirt and shirt, or you can talk to other people around camp and cross your fingers. If you don't come up with anything, talk to the director (counselor?) and I'm sure she'll understand and be able to get something before opening night. Good luck!

You can babysit people and do chores around the house for extra money. Don`t try to loose weight becuase if the play is soon it will be pointless and they are stupid they should have messuared you first. hope i helped ! -courtney

hmm i think the costume people should have made adjustments. ask them where they got it and go to the costume store and tell them what happened or get a rental costume. good luck! <3

See if you can repair the dress or have it repaired. A good seamstress can add fabric to the dress without it showing while also making it where it can be taken in if someone is wearing it and is smaller. Ask the counselor about getting one in a little bigger size. The counselors should realize that not everyone is the same size and make adjustments for that fact.

Best wishes on your play.
