x_mystery answered Sunday May 15 2005, 12:54 pm: Well if you want an 80 dollar guitar, you're going to get 80 dollar quality. Which means...its not going to be a very good guitar. I suppose if you just really want that sound of an electric, go for it, look for one either in catalogs or maybe a thrift store or pawn shop. If you really want a nice one, that is going to sound nice, look nice, and last through the years, you're going to have to spend a bit more - probably in the price range of upper 170 =/ Good luck! Hope I helped! [ x_mystery's advice column | Ask x_mystery A Question ]
MFS answered Sunday May 15 2005, 1:17 am: odds are that for around $80, you're going to be buying something that is either a piece of shit, or something that is really old and needs a bit of work - just keep that in mind as you start looking. I would recommend looking at yard/garage sales, pawn shops, and things like eBay. Local music instrument stores might carry used instruments, so check them as well. TheAllKnowingJanelle answered Saturday May 14 2005, 7:34 pm: I would suggest that you just save your money up to try to get a decent one.
If you were somehow magically able to find one for under $80, I guarantee you that within a couple of years (depending on the style of music you play, and how frequently you do so) it would be a piece of crap and you would have to buy a new one, or pay more than the guitar is worth in repairs.
