I'm thinking about buying a Lacoste on ebay..for those of you who don't know what it is, it's a really expensive polo retailing for $72-$79 in stores like Saks, Nordstroms, etc..The problem is, I don't want to get scammed and be sold a fake one. How do I know if it's real? The one I am currently bidding on has a $0.99 starting bid. The seller states that it has two mother of pearl buttons. She has a feedback of 99.7%. Is this a scam? How do I spot the real ones?
not_your_star34 answered Sunday May 8 2005, 10:12 pm: Look at the sellers' negatives and neutrals. Look at the reasons why the neg/neutral was left. If other buyers have left positives and they've bought Lactose shirts from that seller, I would feel pretty safe. This seller's feedback seems great, so I would trust him/her. I doubt it's a scam.
And just because something is .99, doesn't mean that it's fake. Sellers price expensive things like that so buyers will be like "WOW! A Lactose shirt for .99! What a steal!" and then they bid on it and the price gets higher and higher.

K3587 answered Sunday May 8 2005, 5:02 pm: The percentage is nice, but what is her overall feedback score? The higher, the better. Check to see if she has sold any items like this recently, and if she received positive feedback for those transactions. If you want to be really sure, e-mail the people she recently sold to and ask them. [ K3587's advice column | Ask K3587 A Question ]
xOtWiXi answered Sunday May 8 2005, 4:39 pm: Ebay has special people who search through designer listings to find fakes- if it is fake, most likely it will be pulled off. Sellers start their auctions low to start bidding wars. All of my Lacoste stuff has the Lacoste tag with the European size of the article of clothing. Honestly, I prefer going to the Lacoste Outlet, but with her great rating of 99.7%, I'm sure it's okay. If you do win, and if you do get it, bring it to a Lacoste store and say you got it for a gift and see what they say. If they say it is fake, you report the seller to Ebay, and I believe you send the article of clothing back, and you get refunded from Paypal or your method of payment. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask- Hope I've Helped ♥ [ xOtWiXi's advice column | Ask xOtWiXi A Question ]
RaZzLeDaZzLe2011 answered Sunday May 8 2005, 4:33 pm: two things. first of all 99 cents is hardly anything, so if i were u i would ask her why she is starting the bid so low. second of all, she is probably not scamming you if her feedback is 99.7%, but that also depends how many people she has sold to. so check that out. if she doesn't get back to you about y she is pricing so low, then it might be better to buy it from someone else with the same rating, but selling it at atleast 20.00 probably because that is close to reasonable. any other questions? feel free to ask me anytime! OrionsFire answered Sunday May 8 2005, 3:37 pm: It probably is genuine, most sellers start their bidding price VERY low (like $.01) because they know it will go up a lot in price. If she has a feedback rating of 99.7% then she has been an exceptional seller (unless she has only sold a few things), usually you can go through their feedback too and see what people were unhappy with.
EDIT: Make sure you watch the shipping & handling price, many times people are charging way too much to make sure they get what the item is worth. If you have any more questions, just send me a note. [ OrionsFire's advice column | Ask OrionsFire A Question ]
