Curly Hair

Question Posted Wednesday April 6 2005, 9:59 pm

I have very curly hair. Not like super tight curls but its verry curly, puffy, and frizzy. What can I do to help keep the frizz down?

I suppose the obvious answer would be to use diferrent, special shampoos. but as a frizz sufferer myself, i strongly reccommend the Nicky Clarke range. Follow all the steps on the bottles for about two weeks, and the frizz does become sleeker and more manageable. And no, i am not an advertiser for Nicky Clarke, i just happen to think his products are great.
PS: You might want to try the Frizz ease emergency spray as well, can often work wonders in emergencies. Good luck and let me know if you find any other weird and wonderful ways of calming frizz - i need some myself!

I have really curly hair (although I strighten it alot). First off, get it cut well to suit the curls. Have it layered with shorter layers on the top (not too short just a little shorter then the bottom). Then to style it... wash and condition your hair. In the shower while the conditioner is on it, comb it. Rince and get out of the shower. Don't brush your hair again. Squeeze all the water out with a towel (Don't rub!!! that will make it so frizzy!!) Use your fingers to fix it the way you want it. Then take a gel and rub it between your hands and apply it all over. As much as hard curls kinda suck, they hold and look nicer. Use hairspray if you don't care. If you want them to be soft, I would suggest insted of gel using a cream styling product (they are normally white) Let your hair blow dry.

If you need any more help with this just ask.

Us straighteners! That will help out with your hair. You can have it chemically straightened but it last up to 2 mouths or so people say but it will cost a bit.

you can try a frizz-ease sirum (you can get it at drugstores) and put that in before you blow-dry your hair (not very much...just a dab) and straighten your hair with a straightening iron...it does wonders!!!!

FunnyCide answered Wednesday April 6 2005, 10:26 pm:
me too.. me too. It's not fun. : .. but, I have tried this, and it seems to work pretty well. I use a 'normal' hydrating shampoo (courtesy of Wal-Mart lol) and I use Pantene Pro-V conditioner "Hydrating Curls" with Amino protines. It actually helps! It makes my hair alot easier to tame.
If you have time, you can straighten it every day with a hot-iron straightner, but it takes me well over an hour to get my hair the least little bit straight!
Another option is chemical straightning. This can be done by your hairdresser or yourself. I tried the home kit once, and it didn't do that much for me. (and it smells REALLY bad! ha ha) But you may have different/better results than I did. The woman who cuts my hair said that it wouldn't be worth the $40 that we'd have to pay to get her to chemically straighten my hair 'cause it wouldn't last. (my hair is super thick, curly in places, wavy in places, and frizzy!)
The conditioner helped alot for me, and when I want to/have time/special occasion, I'll straigten my hair. (the last time I did was for a dance, and the next time I do will be for a dance! lol) Maybe a chemical straigtner will work better for you than it did for me. Try the conditioner, and sorry if it doesn't help..

I have straight hair, but all my friends have hair like your's they straighten it with a flat iron. I also think there are ways to make it straight at a salon, I'll look further into it and get back to you on that! But try the flat iron, they're pretty cheap and work very well, I would recomend Revlon, that's what most of my friends have!

Karen answered Wednesday April 6 2005, 10:08 pm:
Pantene Pro-V has a deep moisturizing conditioner that locks in moisture, smooths your hair, and doesn't make your hair frizz. You'll find it in the shampoo/conditioner aisle at any store. John Freida's "Frizz-Ease" will definitely help keep your frizzy hair down. Paul Mitchell and Bedhead hves some products that you can use too. If you go to your local hair salon, there will be more products to choose from that will help keep your frizzy hair down.
