The country that I live in is debating the Death Penalty. I Do not understand the understanding that the death penalty is ok. You are killing someone still aren't you? I realize that the people scentenced are usually murderers and other things along that line. I just want to know both sides of the story. I looked it up on Google and it is not what i am looking for. I want opinions on BOTH side.
Kels answered Thursday March 24 2005, 10:04 am: well, we did a debate on it last year.
they say that if you kill Joe BoB* then he wont go out and commit other murders, besides the one he already did to Mary Sue*.
And there are cases where people like Bob BoB* have excaped from prision and Killed more people.
but i still think that killing some one, anyone is in-humaine.
I think that they should have to live the rest of their life in a high-security prision, and then they will have to think about what they did and know that what they did was wrong.
also, a lot of people who have been killed and even put on death roe- were actually inniocent, and have spent like 30years in prision.
if you make a mistake, and get the wrong guy, you can take him out of prision, you cant bring him back from the dead.

PrincezzMari answered Monday March 21 2005, 10:38 pm: i actually know what you mean. i've looked at both sides of the debate too, and i think they both make sense.i'm not sure if this is really what you're looking for, but here's my opinion, on BOTH sides: taking a human life is wrong. if a person is sentenced to die, aren't they doing to him/her the very crime they have thought of as so sinister that person should be punished? aren't they doing the same thing? yes. and being in prison for life is a worse punisment WITHOUT killing anyone. however, who is to say that a murderer won't try to escape prison? if a criminal is still alive, there is no way to be 100% sure that they won't be able to do it again. if you look at it this way: "the criminal deserves to die" it osunds horrible. but if you look at it this way: "the criminal does not deserve to live" it makes more sense.it is explaining pretty much the same thing, but saying it differently changes a perspective doesn't it? i could help you more if that's not what you're looking for, so leave another questionin my inbox if you want. but i hope i helped with that! *mari* [ PrincezzMari's advice column | Ask PrincezzMari A Question ]

icey0990 answered Monday March 21 2005, 7:25 pm: This has always been a very controversial situation. I look at it this way :
Immagine your the parent who lost their young daughter to a sick man who raped and killed them. There are so many sick sick cases out there, and i beleive the killers desserve to die for what they did. If you look up crime cases and read the stories of the sickest murderers out there, maybe you'll see it in the eyes of the famillies who lose their loved ones to a sicko. The killers are people too, but to do something like that and then get to go to jail, isnt fair. In jail theres plenty to eat, you get to go outside for rec, and you can watch tv on weekends (conditions vary but my dad works in a prison) So basically your being taken care of by the state and you still get to see YOUR loved ones, while the person you killed gets none of that.
Well all have a difference in opinon, and the death penalty will remain controversial for a long time. Theres my side, hope i helped

shake answered Monday March 21 2005, 6:49 pm: Heres the deal.
A killer slaughtered 17 girls after raping them. Dismantling their limbs and such. Later he killed 4 cops trying to arrest him. He lit their bodies on fire.
Murderers are most defanetly people. Murderers are also phsyco's that deserve to die. You dont think that if someone did what i wrote above should still live? Maybe you're just stupid. If you think killers deserve to die. You're very smart and can put things together. An eye for an eye as they say.
A killer deserves to die. What if that killer escapes and is in a prison housed near you? What if that killer walks up to your door rings the doorbell you open it and he does what he did to everyone else to you?

_eMiLy answered Monday March 21 2005, 4:03 pm: My personal opinion, not that it matters is that I'm for it yet against it if you know what I mean.
I'm for Death Penalty because if the person has murdered someone they deserve to die them selfs but I also think that if they were just put in jail for the rest of there lifes they would probably suffer more having to be in a cell for the rest of there lifes and having what they did torture them mentally.
Personally, I don't care what they do with the person as long as whatever the person did pays for what they did.

LoViny0ux914 answered Monday March 21 2005, 3:59 pm: on one side of it, someone killed someone, so why shouldnt they have the same fate? why should they get to live if someone else doesnt because of them? on the other side, two wrongs dont make a right. killing the murderer isnt going to bring back the murdered. i think if you really want to punish someone, like really really punish them, just let them live in isolation with nothing but the thought of their sins. but thats my opinion. interesting question to ask! xoxo [ LoViny0ux914's advice column | Ask LoViny0ux914 A Question ]
Link answered Monday March 21 2005, 3:05 pm: Well the way i see it is an eye for an eye.Back in olden days when there were kings most of them belived in that so basically what it says is if you poke out someones eye they poke out yours. If you cut off someones hand they cut yours off. Then there is the main one if you take someones life yours gets taken. That is mainly what the death penalty isbased on the last part right there but it all has to do with the concept of an eye for an eye. zapreth answered Monday March 21 2005, 2:54 pm: Personal opinion: I am totally for the death penalty. This is why: I pay taxes. Taxes house, feed, and supply both prosecution and appointed defense attorneys for law breakers. Taxes build and maintain prisons and governement buildings. While I do not grudge giving my hard earned money in the support of people who have made mistakes or have been misguided, I have a BIG problem supporting a man or woman who would think of hurting a child or raping or being arrogant enough to think they have the right to kill someone with little provocation. To support a person who would hurt me or my family for little or no reason is stupid. That I must pay for every meal and drink they take thoughout a prison stay pisses me off. I do not mind the taxes spent on defense, everyone has a right to prove thier case. I don't want an innocent person to suffer for another's crimes. I do feel that society as a whole is victimized when death sentences are mitigated to life terms and life terms are mitigated to life with parol. I understand prison is not easy, but it erks me that these people are allowed to remain and take up space and resources that could be applied to better things. rainbowcherrie answered Monday March 21 2005, 2:34 pm: The death penalty is pointless and hypocritical. You said it yourself, they are usually murderers and this is supposed to be punishment. Killing someone because they killed someone else is just pointless. No matter what someone has done, they still deserve to live, a life sentence in prison is better. The death penalty is actually punishing the criminal's family more. They are the people who will have to deal with the grief of losing them in these circumstances. Having said that, the death penalty makes sure that people who have done serious crimes aren't able to commit any more. That is the only argument I know in favour of the death penalty. I feel very strongly about this and I think it is wrong. I don't know how the executioners sleep at night. [ rainbowcherrie's advice column | Ask rainbowcherrie A Question ]
vchicka15 answered Monday March 21 2005, 2:29 pm: To me, the death penalty is ok, but I think a lifetime of jail is a better punishment. I mean, if your in jail all your life youd probably wish you were dead and that is what murderers deserve. [ vchicka15's advice column | Ask vchicka15 A Question ]
Sherry answered Monday March 21 2005, 2:22 pm: Even though this might start fights. Please accept all opinions! I believe that the death penalty is okay. There is this guy named Scott Peterson and he killed his wife and unborn child...there is also this guy in my town who raped and killed a 8 year old girl. I think about the life the 8 year old could have..she didnt do anything. And the wife who was almost a mom, she missed out on the miracle of having a baby and raising a family. You see? They took their lives away, and they need to go on death row. Besides, they dont die right away. they die after like 10 years on death row. [ Sherry's advice column | Ask Sherry A Question ]
bucsbaby6969 answered Monday March 21 2005, 2:22 pm: Well put it this way: You have a mother and she just came home from shopping. Little does she know someone is waiting for her in her house as she is putting away the items she bought. When she is done she walks into the room and sees a man stealing her jewelry. He freaks and pulls out a gun and shoots her to death. As he is on the run he kills other people. He is caught. He has killed so many lives and caused grief on so many people. Why should he live?
