My cousin wants to tryout for cheerleading in highschool. She's done it before when she was younger, and can do flips and cartwheels. However, she feels that she "MUST HAVE A BACKHAND SPRING" to make the H.S. squad.
♥ Does anyone know if you definitely need a backhand spring to make an average hs squad
♥ Does anyone have any confidence or any other tips for her, she won't listen to just me..thanks alot! I'll rate well to appropriate answers!
jen_rache answered Sunday March 20 2005, 10:14 am: well to make a high school squad... yoo probly want to have a flip flop (back handspring) i no for the squad me and jen are trying out for, to make freshman squad yoo dont need any tumbling, but good cheering would be good. to make junior varsity yoo need definately at LEAST a flip flop. and varsity you need probly a back. so try to get her to do her flip flop! good luck!
calirae010 answered Sunday March 20 2005, 12:05 am: no, you dont have to have it down. a round off by its self if usually worth about 4 points on scoring. as for other advice, just be really tight in your jumps and learn to sit in them. it doesnt always matter how high they are just as long as they are tight and you work hard. i hope that helps her! ♥ [ calirae010's advice column | Ask calirae010 A Question ]
partygurl24 answered Saturday March 19 2005, 7:53 pm: At most highschools, the cheerleader's do back hand springs usually, so they probably have to learn it before they join their team. Although this may be the rule for the squad your sister wants to try out for, tell her to not stress that much and practice night and day because she might just end up hurting yourself. If neither you or her are sure, mayeb you guys should ask either the captain, sponser, or cheerleaders already on the team...I gurantee they'll know since they're the ones judging. I hope I helped! Haylee answered Saturday March 19 2005, 7:43 pm: Well i've been doing cheering for 5 years now. IF you have your back hand-spring you (on my team) automatially make it. But im not sure in your case. I think if you have it you have a more-likely chance of making the squad. [ Haylee's advice column | Ask Haylee A Question ]

Erinn_the_bamf answered Saturday March 19 2005, 6:36 pm: Some teams do require you to have a backhand spring but not all. For confidence she should just have fun and show the judges what she's made of. If she doesn't have a backhand spring she can just be stiff and do the routine the best she can. The best advice for her is to BE STIFF!!!!! I hope I helped! ♥ good luck [ Erinn_the_bamf's advice column | Ask Erinn_the_bamf A Question ]
Sherry answered Saturday March 19 2005, 6:31 pm: All schools are different. Different teams have different requirements. Most high schools let the girls without a backhand spring or cheerleading experience.. join a Freshmen or Junior Varisty team. If she wants to make Varsity, they might require a backhand spring. So it all depends on the team, so she should ask the coach! Tips: She needs to start stretching and exercising. Cheerleading is an extreme sport that requires flexibility and stamina. If she needs any tryout tips you can ask me. I love cheerleading and would love to help you out! [ Sherry's advice column | Ask Sherry A Question ]
