Moving to America or Australia- what are they like?

Question Posted Thursday February 10 2005, 3:36 pm

I currently live in London and may be moving to either Philadelphia in America or Melbourne in Australia. Iv'e been to Melbourne before but don't know what it would be like living there. What the would be schools like, e.c.t.
Iv'e never been to America and have no idea what its like there. Could anyone who lives in Philadelphia tell me what its like? Also, I'm really fit and thin at the moment, but Iv'e heard that in America its hard to get hold of healthy foods. I don't like this whole bribe thing, but I will rate high for any good answers.

I used to live in Philadelphia, and I loved it. It is probably the best city to move to in the USA because it is so historical. You have to see all the monuments and museums like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Franklin Institute.

There is a lot to do in Pennsylvania. I was born in Pittsburgh (on the other side of the state). Hershey Park is in the middle of the state and it is awesome.

America rocks!!! Finding healthy foods is no problem, either. I have been to London a few times and the food is just the same(but we call chips french fries, and crisps are called chips etc.)

My dads best friend is from Melbourne and I might be going down there this summer. It is a very nice place to live and you will enjoy it.

I currently live outside of Dallas, Texas and I love it here too. Write me if you need any help with PA!!

I live in the US. It is really great here. There are a lot of fast food restraunts here but the whole "health food" craze has made a lot of healthy food available. I don't live in Phili but I have heard it is really pretty with all the historic buildings and the liberty bell and everything. I think you would love it here. If you have any specific questions about america and the schools or anything else, feel free to ask me. It would be hard to tell you everything about my country in only a paragraph. Well feel free to ask me anything... LYL lexi

Dear Moving,
You should not be nervous. I am sure that wherever you move to, you will soon be comfortable with the choice. I do not live in Philadelphia nor have I ever been there. I live in California. Have you ever heard of MTV? MTV has a show called The Real World and currently their in Philadelphia. You should watch it sometime. It might give you a better understanding of what your getting into. I am guessing that people are different here than what you are used to. It might take some time to make friends. Some people might even be intrigued that you are from London. It is a very good conversation starter. Whatever happens I wish you the best of luck.

Hey,
First of all, just to let you know, you're really lucky that you live in London, and that u might be moving to places that both speak English. I mean, I recently moved to Italy, and all they speak is Italian. Sometimes I hate that about here. Don't worry, in America, you can definitely get healthy foods if you look in the right places and/or ask the right people. The schools will be a little different, and oh, yeah, even though it's English; some of the language terms will be different, and one of those things, I don'tknow if you know it already, is: English version of the word PANTS means underwear, but the American version of the word PANTS means trousers. This is kind of weird to explain, since I speak American english, but I know these things because I have an English friend here and stuff. Also I move often so Lemme know if you need to talk to someone. Hope I helped, rate me if you like my advice thx. Ciao- *D.C.G.*

Well, I've never been to Australia. But whoever told you that it's hard to get hold of healthy foods lied to you. Yes, about everyone in the united states are overweight but that's because they choose to be. We have health food stores. Philadelphia is nice depending on where you live. Most of it is the ghetto filled with drugs, violence and whatnot. I honestly do NOT incourage you to move to the united states. Our president is an idiot #1, #2 it's hard to find a job #3 it's cold in Philly!! I would honestly suggest you move to Melbourne. I've looked on the net and Melbourne is a beautiful city. But, to make your final decison, I would suggest you take a trip out to Philly for about 2-3 weeks and see how you like it out here. You must keep in mind, it snows over here alot and the winters are harsh. I hope this helped.
