Help! To Anyone! (Gymanstics, danceers, cheerleaders)~ Sry i

Question Posted Tuesday February 8 2005, 4:06 pm

Cheerleading is just over! I am pretty good but i want to get better. I can do a cartwheel, round off, all jumps, heal streach, split! But tryouts are in about 2 months and i want stuff to do. I have a few questions,
What are some new cool moves?
What should i do to teach my self a back walkover? I am afraid of going back!
What can i do to get my jumps higher? yes, I prep but that doesnt seem to be enough, is jumping while i prep a bad thing?
Should i do some running and such? Im skinny but for extra "strength" if you want to call it that!

((Please.... HELP!!!))

take this from a gymnast of 8 years, ok back walkover...do back bends and kick over making sure your toes are pointed and that you stick out your nose as far as you can (average is a foot...this is once you're in your backbend!)...do this until it's natural and once you can do this eally well and really fast, try a back walkover, but always have a spotter (someone there to look out for you)!

To gain height, practice jumping up with backward arm circles, make your elbows hit your ears every time!

Ya you prep, then jump, otherwise it isn't a prep! Hope this helps!

hey! Well, as for the back walkover, i dont suggest trying that on your own. But you SHOULD do backbends alot to get your back stretched out, and maybe you could try kicking over, and once you get used to that you'll get your backwalkover!
What you can do to make your jumps higher is stretch everyday and work on your abs because your abs take a major part in how high your jumps are. YES jumping while you prep doesnt make any sense. Im not sure that i understand what your saying, but your supposed to prep and as your arms come up, hit your jump....
Running will help get you in shape and do sit ups!

Don't do anything your not comfortable doing- you can regret is very easily_ But that doesnt mean you can build up to doing it! I dance 4 days a week and i suggest trying to still improve on the things you know and make them better, and then have friends stop you on back walkovers. For getting your jumps higher- you should definitly try squats. Sounds weird but what you do is just stand with your legs apart like the distance of your hips, and bend your legs (knee's) and squat and jump back up. Do this over and over and your hight and jumps will improve, if your consistant- trust me.. Anyways, goodluck at the try outs keep your head high, you can tell that you want to do well and its good getting advice, hope i helped

If you want to learn some new moves, there is a cheerleading video that you can buy off of the tv. I think its called Cheer! or something like that. It's a really helpful video. If you dont want to buy it though, try going to varsity.com. It's a really helpful site. Hope my advice helps!

Never try backwalkovers, backhandspinrgs or any other tumbling without a certified coach. Go to a gym and they'll help you out. Plus help get over your fear of going back! Cool moves? Just practice dancing a lot and practice your motions..For tryout tips and cheer tips go to www.varsity.com

learn a front handspring. its really easy! if running is easier for you for cartwheel and roundoff then run and just put yur hands down and flip yur legs..its liek a front flip with yur hands on the ground. lol i dont even kno why i explain this im pretty sure you already kno. lol. and also for the back hang spring try to have one of your friends spot you. have her put her arm under yur back and then try to jump back when you do this have her push yur feet back if you need it. i think running would be good because if you want to do a back handspring yur legs probably need to be strong. sorry its so long. hope it works!

I asked my friend thats a cheerleader to answer this, she says:

Well there aren't really any new moves just how you put in order. For a back walkover start walking down a wall with your hands against the wall, feet on the ground and slowly move down to the floor. To jump higher, make sure you stretch your legs as far as they can go, and for preps don't go on your toes, leave your feet flat and jump from your knees.

Hope she helped you! Good luck!

1)running is always good for lower body exercises.
2)use a sprigboard to practice jumps.
3)try the back walkover on like pillows or something softer than the school mats.
4)go to a cheerleading website or something to get instuctions for new moves.
Hope i helped some
