16/f/California. When I'm at the beach, or when I'm out in the sun for long periods of time, I never wear sunblock (if anything, I use like, a tanning lotion or something)...and I tan easily (I have mostly Dominican in me, and we're able to tan easily), I rarely burn. But lately the whole "skin cancer" thing is freaking me out. I like being tan, and the fact that I tan easily. If I wore sunblock, can I still get a tan? I heard that you can, it just blocks the bad sun rays...is this true? Or does sunblock completely block the sun??
Miz_Jenny answered Friday February 18 2005, 5:18 pm: sunblock does just what its name says: blocks sun. it pretty much prevents any sun from getting into your skin. sunscreen is your best bet because it will block out enough sun so that you can get a tan and still have healthy skin. tan tan tan!
XSugarPieX77 answered Monday February 7 2005, 5:20 pm: Yep, you can still get a tan. Its great that your takeing the whole skin cancer into consideration cuz i know someone who got it and it was really nasty lol. Sunblock doesnt completely block the sun. I use sunblock 16. Have fun in the sun!!!

Erinn_the_bamf answered Monday February 7 2005, 3:39 pm: No, sunblock does not block out all the rays. There are mixtures of sunblock and tanning lotion out there. You can even make your own. If you only want a little sun screen use SPF 15 or even SPF 8. I hope I helped! ♥ good luck [ Erinn_the_bamf's advice column | Ask Erinn_the_bamf A Question ]
Karen answered Monday February 7 2005, 2:58 pm: Yup, you can still tan while wear sunblock. Sun block helps "protect" your skin from the ultraviolet rays from the sun and you can still tan. Try to get sun block that has a good SPF so you can stay out longer. Hope I helped :)

Itsallkaitlyn answered Monday February 7 2005, 1:50 pm: Well if you tan easily, you should be able tp wear sunblock and still get a tan. You don't want to risk getting skin cancer, so I would say wear sun block and keep yourself safe -Kaitlyn [ Itsallkaitlyn's advice column | Ask Itsallkaitlyn A Question ]

kadieleigh_roberts answered Monday February 7 2005, 7:45 am: wearing sunblock only means that u can stay in the sun longer without getting burnt. like if you use sunfactor 15 it means that you can stay in the sun 15 times lionger thatn you could wothout getting burnt. so i advise you to use sunblock.
